Responsibilities
- Prepare parts for plating by cleaning, degreasing, and removing any existing coatings or impurities using abrasive materials, solvents, and cleaning agents.
- Apply specialized coatings and finishes to gun barrels using electroplating or other plating methods, ensuring the correct plating solution and process parameters are used.
- Conduct thorough inspections of plated gun barrels to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications, including tests for adhesion, corrosion resistance, and hardness.
- Maintain and troubleshoot plating equipment and tools, performing regular calibrations and coordinating with maintenance personnel for repairs when necessary.
- Adhere to strict safety protocols and guidelines while working with hazardous chemicals, plating equipment, and firearms, following all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of plating processes, including process parameters, inspection results, and any deviations from specifications, and generate reports for process improvement.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical education or certifications in plating, surface finishing, or a related field are preferred.
- Proven experience in electroplating or other plating techniques, preferably in a firearms manufacturing or related industry.
- In-depth knowledge of plating materials, chemicals, and processes, including surface preparation, coating selection, and quality control.
- Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity for handling delicate gun barrels and applying coatings precisely.
- Familiarity with operating and maintaining plating equipment, such as rectifiers, tanks, filters, and chemical pumps.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot equipment and process issues.
- Adherence to safety protocols and the ability to work in a controlled and regulated environment.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
