What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Software Engineer - Founding Team position at Greylock Partners?
Greylock invested in a stealth enterprise AI company and now we are helping the founders to find a Senior to Staff Backend Engineer.
We're at an inflection point where AI can navigate software, click buttons, and complete multi-step workflows like a human. This team is building for that moment.
The founding team brings deep experience scaling enterprise AI products and a track record of prior exits.
The team is small and early, based in San Francisco with a hybrid setup (3 days in office).

Required Qualifications
- 7 years of backend engineering experience
- Strong proficiency in at least one modern backend language (Go, Python, Rust, Node.js, etc.)
- Deep experience designing and building RESTful or gRPC APIs for highly available, distributed systems
- Solid understanding of database technologies — relational, NoSQL, and their tradeoffs
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and modern DevOps practices
- Familiarity with LLM APIs, AI orchestration frameworks, or building systems that integrate with AI/ML models
- Experience designing backend infrastructure to support real-time or agentic AI workflows
- Proven ownership across the full engineering lifecycle: design, build, deploy, and operate
