Position Summary:
Founded in 1997, Gresham Partners, LLC is a $13.8 billion Chicago-based investment and wealth management firm serving a select group of ultra-high net-worth families across the country. The firm is known for its independent thinking, investment approach and performance results. We are seeking an intrinsically motivated accountant who is financial and operations-minded team member for our Finance Team. The Controller role will be based in Chicago.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain effective relationships with third party bookkeepers, tax accountants, banking relationships, auditor, and legal counsel.
- Research accounting issues for GAAP and other compliance requirements.
- Assist in processing payroll.
- Review and approve expense reports and invoice payments, enforce segregation of duties, expense, and other internal controls.
- Provide cash flow, profitability and other financial analyses and models.
- Provide back-up and create budgets and forecasts.
- Lead and manage outside bookkeeper.
- Manage general ledger.
- Provide monthly and year end variance analyses.
- Manage outside auditors and provide reconciliations and support documentation. Draft audited financial statements.
- Lead operational improvement projects.
- Maintain and update expense policies and communicate with the Firm.
- Create wire templates, process wires, and monitor cash flow.
- Recommend changes and lead new software implementations and automation projects.
- Provide ad-hoc reporting to co-workers and third parties as needed.
Education, Experience and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree required with a concentration in finance or accounting strongly preferred.
- CPA desired.
- 5 – 8 years prior work experience.
- Microsoft CRM experience a plus.
- Computer savvy, with demonstrated strength in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel and modeling expertise.
- Experience working at a financial firm is a plus.
- Knowledge of capital transactions and capital controls is a plus.
- Experience with tax/book differences.
- Interest in capital markets investments and accounting pronouncements.
- High energy level; motivated; self-starter; can work both independently and in a team environment.
- Understanding of operational processes, transactional impacts, cash movement, accruals, and valuation methodologies.
- Experienced in and enjoys operational process improvements.
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and perform effectively under deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong attention to detail; numbers/math oriented.
