Director of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS)
Location: Southeast, Southwest, and Midwest
Travel: Approximately 50%
Gregory Construction is a Christian, faith based heavy civil contractor specializing in mission critical construction. We self perform underground utilities, earthwork, concrete, and site development on large scale data center and infrastructure projects across the country.
We are seeking an experienced Director of Environmental, Health & Safety to join our Executive Leadership Team. This is a high impact leadership opportunity for someone who wants to do more than manage compliance. As a member of the Executive Team, you'll have a direct voice in company decisions and help guide the long-term direction of Gregory Construction. This position requires approximately 50% travel throughout the Southeast, Southwest, and Midwest. We believe the best safety leaders are present in the field, building relationships, coaching leaders, supporting project teams, and creating consistency across every project we deliver.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the executive leader for Gregory Construction's Environmental, Health & Safety program, driving strategy, accountability, and continuous improvement across all operations.
- Champion Gregory Construction's Core Values by ensuring Safety, Integrity, Communication, Determination, and Excellence remain at the forefront of every decision, project, and interaction.
- Act as a visible advocate for our culture by building strong relationships with field teams, mentoring leaders, and fostering an environment where safety and operational excellence go hand in hand.
- Partner with the President, Executive Team, Operations, Project Managers, and Superintendents to align safety initiatives with company goals and long-term growth.
- Travel approximately 50% to active project sites throughout the Southeast, Southwest, and Midwest to provide leadership, coaching, support, and consistency across the organization.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve company-wide EHS programs, policies, standards, and best practices.
- Oversee OSHA compliance, environmental programs, audits, inspections, regulatory reporting, and corrective action initiatives.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, workers' compensation management, and return-to-work programs while driving meaningful corrective actions.
- Build, mentor, and develop a high performing team of safety professionals by creating accountability, coaching future leaders, and supporting professional growth.
- Collaborate with project teams during planning and execution to proactively identify and mitigate project risks.
- Analyze safety performance metrics, including TRIR, DART, EMR, audit findings, claims, and leading indicators to drive continuous improvement.
- Partner with clients, subcontractors, insurance carriers, and regulatory agencies while representing Gregory Construction with professionalism and integrity.
- Ensure safety remains practical, field focused, and fully integrated into the way Gregory Construction plans, leads, and executes work every day.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive EHS leadership experience within the construction industry.
- Extensive experience in heavy civil construction, including underground utilities, earthwork, excavation, concrete, industrial construction, site development, or mission critical/data center projects.
- Experience leading safety professionals across multiple projects, regions, or business units.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA construction standards, EPA requirements, DOT regulations, workers' compensation, incident investigations, and construction risk management.
- Professional certifications such as CSP, CHST, OHST, STSC, CHMM, CRIS, or similar are strongly preferred.
- OSHA 500/510 or other advanced OSHA training is preferred.
- Strong communication, coaching, leadership, and relationship building skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly to project sites throughout the Southeast, Southwest, and Midwest.
