Position Overview
Gregory Construction is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to help grow our client relationships and identify new construction opportunities across our target markets.
This is a relationship-driven role focused on developing strong, long-term partnerships with clients while identifying projects early and helping position Gregory Construction for successful pursuits. The Business Development Manager will work closely with our Director of Preconstruction, estimating, operations, project management, and leadership teams to connect client needs with Gregory's capabilities.
We are looking for someone who understands the construction industry, can build credibility with clients and project teams, and knows how to turn strong relationships and market knowledge into meaningful business opportunities.
What You'll Do
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients, general contractors, industry partners, and key decision-makers.
- Develop a deep understanding of each client's organization, upcoming projects, priorities, procurement processes, schedules, and construction needs.
- Identify and qualify new opportunities within heavy civil, mission-critical/data center, industrial, infrastructure, and other strategic construction markets.
- Maintain consistent client engagement before, during, and after project pursuits.
- Develop strategic account plans for priority clients and maintain visibility into upcoming project opportunities.
- Track market activity, client capital plans, competitors, and emerging construction opportunities.
- Lead opportunities from initial identification through pursuit, proposal, interview, award, and follow-up.
- Help develop pursuit strategies, including client priorities, key decision-makers, competitive positioning, and win strategies.
- Coordinate closely with Preconstruction and Estimating to ensure pursuit strategies and proposals address the client's needs.
- Participate in client meetings, pre-bid meetings, site visits, proposal presentations, interviews, and post-bid follow-up.
- Support go/no-go evaluations to ensure opportunities align with Gregory Construction's capabilities, resources, geographic priorities, and growth strategy.
- Maintain accurate client, opportunity, pipeline, and follow-up information within the company's CRM.
- Coordinate a smooth handoff from business development and preconstruction to project operations following an award.
- Stay engaged with strategic clients throughout project execution to support client satisfaction and future opportunities.
- Conduct win/loss follow-up and capture client feedback and lessons learned.
- Represent Gregory Construction at industry events, conferences, associations, client functions, and networking opportunities.
- Provide regular pipeline and business development updates to leadership.
The position is intended to maintain visibility into future opportunities early enough to help Gregory anticipate estimating workload, staffing, equipment needs, and geographic expansion.
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in construction business development, preconstruction, estimating, project management, operations, client relations, or a related construction role.
- Experience within heavy civil, industrial, mission-critical, infrastructure, or related construction markets strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction projects, including estimating, project delivery, schedules, contracts, and project risk.
- Demonstrated ability to develop strategic client relationships and manage long-term construction pursuits.
- Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Comfortable communicating with executives, owners, contractors, preconstruction teams, project managers, and field leadership.
- Ability to manage multiple clients, opportunities, and pursuits simultaneously.
- Experience with CRM systems, Microsoft Office, presentation tools, and market intelligence platforms.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred; relevant construction experience may be considered in place of a degree.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability and willingness to travel regularly for client meetings, industry events, and project/site visits.
What We're Looking For
This isn't simply a transactional sales position. We're looking for someone who understands that successful construction business development is built through relationships, credibility, industry knowledge, and consistent follow-through.
The ideal candidate is proactive and naturally curious about clients and their businesses. You should be able to understand a project's scope, schedule, risks, stakeholders, and competitive landscape well enough to communicate effectively with both the client and Gregory's internal construction teams.
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who can build genuine relationships while ensuring the opportunities we pursue make sense for both the client and Gregory Construction.
