Pizza Cook

A pizza cook, or pizzaiolo, prepares and bakes high-quality pizzas while following restaurant recipes. Core duties include making pizza dough, crafting sauces, chopping toppings, stretching dough, and operating pizza ovens. They also maintain a sanitized kitchen station and monitor ingredient freshness.

Core Responsibilities

• Food Preparation: Prepare fresh pizza dough, sauces, and toppings (e.g., vegetables, meats, and cheeses) on a daily basis.
• Pizza Assembly: Stretch and shape dough, ladle sauce, and distribute toppings according to specific brand or recipe guidelines.
• Oven Operation: Monitor pizza ovens for proper cooking temperatures and manage precise baking times.
• Quality Control: Inspect pizzas before serving to guarantee uniform taste, portion sizes, and appealing presentation.
• Sanitation & Safety: Clean and sterilize workstations, utensils, and cooking equipment according to health codes.
• Inventory Management: Stock stations, monitor ingredient freshness, and communicate low-stock items to management. Count inventory twice a month.
• Ordering: Place the weekly order.

Essential Qualifications

• Experience: Previous experience as a line cook, prep cook, or specialized pizza maker is highly preferred.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy objects (like bulk flour bags or cheese blocks), and work comfortably in a fast-paced, hot kitchen.
• Knowledge: Familiarity with professional kitchen equipment and standard food safety sanitation regulations.
• Certifications: A current Food Handler’s Card or certificate is often required depending on local county regulations. You will need to study and pass the ServeSafe Manager Program. Employer will pay for the class and test.
