The Irrigation Specialist / Flex Field Technician is a high-impact, field-based role responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of irrigation systems across a diverse portfolio of commercial landscape properties. This position also serves as a flex resource, supporting landscape maintenance and enhancement crews during peak demand, weather events, or operational gaps.
This role is designed for a technically skilled, adaptable professional who can operate independently, solve problems in real time, and elevate field performance across multiple service lines.
Core Responsibilities
Irrigation System Management (Primary Function)
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair irrigation systems including valves, controllers, wiring, lateral lines, and backflow devices
- Perform system audits to ensure optimal coverage, efficiency, and water conservation
- Program and adjust smart controllers (e.g., weather-based systems)
- Conduct seasonal start-ups, winterizations (if applicable), and mid-season inspections
- Identify system inefficiencies and recommend upgrades or repairs
- Ensure compliance with local water regulations and best management practices
- Maintain accurate service records, reports, and documentation
Installation & Upgrades
- Assist with or lead irrigation installs, retrofits, and system expansions
- Read and interpret irrigation plans, blueprints, and as-builts
- Install drip systems, spray heads, rotors, and control systems
- Coordinate with enhancement and construction teams on project execution
Flex Field Support (Secondary Function)
- Support maintenance crews with mowing, edging, pruning, and clean-up as needed
- Assist enhancement crews with planting, mulching, drainage, and landscape upgrades
- Fill critical labor gaps to ensure service delivery standards are met
- Operate trucks, trailers, and equipment safely across multiple job sites
Operational Excellence
- Communicate effectively with Account Managers, Production Managers, and clients when needed
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce water usage, and enhance property aesthetics
- Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in clean and working condition
- Uphold company safety standards and participate in safety training
QualificationsRequired
- 2–5 years of experience in irrigation service, repair, or installation
- Strong knowledge of irrigation components and system diagnostics
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physical labor daily
Preferred
- Irrigation certification (e.g., IA Certified Irrigation Technician or equivalent)
- Experience with smart irrigation technology (e.g., Hunter, Rain Bird systems)
- Backflow certification (where applicable)
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
