Job Title: Mechanic
Reports To: Director of Transportation
Employment And FLSA Status: Classified/Non-Exempt
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the transportation director, the Mechanic is to assist the Head Mechanic with maintenance of buses and other corporation vehicles as assigned. Mechanic is responsible for the regular scheduled maintenance to keep the fleet running efficiently.
Essential Functions:
Regular Maintenance
- Oil Changes
- Brake pads
- Check Fluids/filters
- Check tires/tire pressure
- Assist Head Mechanic with larger tasks
- Clean busses, inside and out
- Other duties as assigned
School Break Maintenance
- Prepare for State inspection
- Assist Head Mechanic
- Go to training sessions for certification
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- General understanding of vehicle maintenance
- Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community
- Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms
- Exhibit patience, consideration, understanding, even temperament and calmness under stressful situations.
- Ensure that all maintenance conform to state school transportation guidelines.
- React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
- Appropriately operate all vehicles and equipment as required.

- Comply with all district policies, rules and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a school district or public sector environment.
- Familiarity with local roads and school locations within the district.
- Automotive mechanics training and/or experience
- Familiarity with a diesel, gas and/or propane powered vehicles
Physical Requirements
This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting. The employee must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds on a regular basis.
Working Conditions
Work is performed around hydraulic and powered equipment. The employee will be exposed to varying outdoor weather conditions.

3 hours per day, 180 school days
8 hours per day, 80 additional days (summer, school breaks)

Job Title: Bus Driver
Reports To: Director of Transportation
Employment And FLSA Status: Classified/Non-Exempt
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the transportation director, the Bus Driver is to operate the assigned school on an assigned transportation route. Bus Driver is responsible for the safe transportation, loading and unloading of students to and from assigned destinations.
Essential Functions:
- Demonstrates skill and proficiency in carrying out assignments.
- Possesses skills and knowledge to perform the job competently.
- Holds self accountable for assigned responsibilities; sees tasks through to completion in a timely manner.
- Communicates effectively with supervisor, peers, and stakeholders.

- Demonstrates ability to work cooperatively with supervision or as part of a team.
- Demonstrates reliability (attendance, punctuality, meeting deadlines).
- Displays fairness towards all colleagues.
- Abide by all Indiana school transportation regulations.
- Provide safe and orderly transportation to and from school and school-related activities.
- Maintain an assigned schedule.
- Transport only authorized students.
- Discharge students only at authorized stops.
- Maintain student discipline while adhering to student discipline process as outlined in Board approved student handbooks.
- Abide by all traffic laws.
- Inspect bus prior to each route or activity trip, and file inspection forms with the Director/designee.
- Maintain the bus in clean condition and inform the transportation supervisor whenever a bus is received in unsatisfactory condition.
- Immediately notify the Director/designee if the route is running late or of mechanical failure.
- Inform the transportation supervisor of routine maintenance and repair required.
- Report all accidents and file required accident reports with the Director.
- Maintain bus cleanliness.
- Adhere to all district health and safety policies.
- The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director.

Qualifications:
- Required State of Indiana Class B CDL with air brake and school bus endorsement.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift 40 lbs.
- Ability to carry 40 lbs.
- Ability to ride a bus for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations.
- Ability to see for the purpose of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed material.
- Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
- Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation.
- Ability to reach in all directions.
