JOB TITLE: Language Arts and Multi-Language Learner Teacher
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
SUPERVISES: Non-Applicable
EMPLOYMENT AND FLSA STATUS: Exempt/Salary
POSITION PURPOSE
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students and by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc. This position will be assigned some ELA classes and some time will be set aside to support MLL students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides supervision of students in educational settings.
- Develops and administers school curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
- Instructs students in the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws, as well as administrative regulations and procedures of the school system.
- Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
- Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
- Administers standardized tests in accordance with District testing programs.
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Completes other duties as assigned by the Principal.

IN ADDITION:
Position Purpose: The MLL teacher will support the language development of English learners, primarily in secondary grade. The teacher will work in collaboration with the classroom teacher(s) to scaffold content appropriate to the student's proficiency level and develop language goals for each student.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performance Responsibilities:
- Works with building administrators and instructional coaches to support English Learners
- Knows and uses the WIDA Standards to differentiate instruction appropriate for each English language proficiency level
- Partners with the MLL Coordinator to present MLL professional development in the area of reading, writing, math, specifically using MLL strategies. Prepares for and delivers high quality, dynamic, professional development sessions during staff meetings and/or other designated times
- Pursues ongoing learning opportunities and shows willingness to learn from the insight of others; is a team player
- Demonstrates flexibility and prioritizes time to meet the needs of students across multiple settings
Teaching and Learning
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to provide highly effective instruction for English learners
- Address all aspects of instruction specific to English learners that develops each student's ability to read, write, speak and listen across the curriculum. This may happen individually, in small groups, or in the classroom setting with the goal of application and the transfer of learning in the general education setting
- In an instance where MLL teacher is co-teaching with classroom teacher, MLL teacher develops and maintains a supportive co-teaching environment; teachers work together to plan, assess and reflect upon lessons and data
Collecting and Analyzing Data
- Interprets and analyzes NWEA, IREAD-3 and ILEARN data specific to MLL norms to build ILPs and support classroom instruction
- Administers WIDA testing
Communicating with Families and Community
- Writes, maintains and revises ILPs with teachers, as needed
- Demonstrates ability to deal with sensitive issues in a tactful, culturally sensitive and professional manner
- Advocates for students and families, including parent engagement events for MLL K-12 families
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Indiana teaching license for 9-12 language arts.
- Current ENL teaching license (preferred) or ENL TOR Certification prior to September 1, 2022
- Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Ability to operate office equipment.
- Ability to reach in all directions.
