TITLE: Assistant Principal


PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Assistant Principal shall be directly responsible to the Principal. Responsible for assisting in the administration of all aspects of the total school program and providing educational leadership for students and staff consistent with division goals.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree and have or be eligible for a Postgraduate Professional Certificate with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision PK – 12.
  • A minimum of five years combined successful teaching and/or administrative experience.
  • Ability to utilize technology for instruction, data and analysis, and administrative purposes.
  • Demonstrated successful administrative/supervisory work experience, instructional and general leadership ability and personal characteristics necessary for working with staff, parents and community.
Alternative qualifications as the Superintendent and School Board may find appropriate and acceptable.


PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
Assists the principal in administering and evaluating the instructional program of the school to include:
1. Conducting instructional supervision and evaluation including classroom and teaching observations for assigned areas;
2. Implementing curriculum and educational objectives consistent with goals;
3. Developing an efficient system for pupil and program appraisal, recommending changes as needed to meet student needs;
4. Evaluating grading policies and pupil progress with members of the staff;
5. Assisting teachers in planning field trips and using community resources;
6. Providing leadership in initiating in-service programs and organizational improvements;
7. Providing a climate conducive to effective communications through the use of faculty meetings, committees and individual conferences;
8. Assists the principal in coordinating and administering pupil personnel services.
9. Implementing and maintaining a code of acceptable student behavior;
10. Coordinating and supervising student affairs including after school activities;
11. Coordinating services to students such as guidance, health, special education;
12. Participating in eligibility meetings;
13. Supervising pupil record keeping;
14. Assisting in pupil scheduling.

Assists the principals in administering staff personnel procedures in accordance with approved policies to include:
15. Participating in the recruitment, placement and evaluation of all staff members;
16. Completing required reports;
17. Promoting a healthy and safe work environment;
18. Establishing building maintenance schedules and evaluating their effectiveness;

19. Maintaining furniture and equipment inventories;
20. Supervising the use of the school and grounds by all agencies;
21. Ordering necessary instructional materials, textbooks, equipment and analyzing the usage of such materials in conjunction with the principal.

Assists the principal in establishing and maintaining an effective school/community relations program to include:
22. Communicating with parents by means of school programs, letters, alerts, telephone and personal contact;
23. Meeting with parent and community groups;
24. Communicating and interpreting school division policies, procedures and regulations.


25. Assists the principal in developing and evaluating an annual school plan, assuring its coordination with division-wide goals.
26. Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:
Frequent walking, stooping, standing, lifting, up to approximately 30 pounds, and occasional lifting of equipment and materials weighing up to approximately 40 pounds may be required. Other limited physical activities are required. Travel to schools throughout the division and central office is required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members, school administrators, and members of the community is required.


EVALUATION:
Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of personnel.


TERMS OF CONTRACT:
12 Month – 250 Days – 8.5 Hours per Day

Salary commensurate with experience
