JOB VACANCY
DEPARTMENT: Conservation District
Position: Office Internship
Salary: $14.00/hour Non-Exempt
Hours: 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM with one-hour lunch
35 hours per week with evening and weekend hours as necessary
Benefits: NONE
OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB:
To assist the Conservation District staff with various projects, including, but not limited to:
- West Nile Virus monitoring
- Weekly Tick collections
- Water quality monitoring projects
- Stormwater Management
- Shadowing site inspections
- Shadowing constituent visits
- Public education and outreach visits
- Responsible for collecting necessary soil samples for the GRACE program
- Other general and clerical duties, as necessary
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Receives daily instruction and ongoing supervision in regard to daily work duties from Supervisor. Works occasionally independently.
SUPERVISON GIVEN: NONE
WORKING CONDITIONS:
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CONDITIONS:
1. Must possess ability to follow instructions and pay close attention to details
2. Must possess ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures and follow instructions.
3. Must be able to stand, run and walk intermittently for long periods throughout the workday, with occasional sitting, bending, twisting, stooping, climbing, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching and grasping or driving as necessary to carry out duties of job.
4. Dexterity requirements range from simple to coordinated movements of fingers/hands; feet/legs; torso necessary to carry out duties of job.
5. Sedentary work, with frequent lifting/carrying of objects weighing from 10-20 lbs.
6. Must demonstrate emotional stability.
7. Must be able to compute simple math calculations.
8. Must be able to move frequently throughout the work day.
QUALIFICATIONS
A. EDUCATION/TRAINING
High school diploma and current student at the college or university pursuing a degree in Agriculture, Environmental or Earth Sciences.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
1. Must be able to speak and understand the English language in an understandable manner in order to carry out essential job duties.
2. Must possess effective communication and interpersonal skills.
3. Must possess ability to function independently, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with co-workers and the general public.
4. Must possess thorough knowledge of Microsoft Product software such as Word and Excel, and utilizing modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
5. Must possess thorough knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic.
6. Must possess the ability to exercise independent judgment on disposition of office problems and the ability to exhibit individual initiative in carrying out assigned projects.
7. Must possess the ability to compose a variety of letters, memoranda and reports with limited instruction.
8. Must possess the ability to maintain a variety of records and prepare complete and accurate reports.
9. Must be able to pay close attention to details, coordinate efficiently and concentrate on work.

- This position is subject to outdoor conditions which may include occasional adverse weather conditions. Will need to dress appropriately for working conditions.
- Works indoors in adequate work space, temperatures, ventilation and lighting.

- Normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt.
- Travels occasionally when needed to perform essential functions of job.
- Subject to working evenings or extended hours for meetings or seminars related to the job.
- Subject to walking outdoors over multi-terrain situations.
