Grocery Store Manager

The Store Manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining customer services, oversees and is accountable for the operation of the store ensuring maximum sales and profitability through merchandise, inventory, expense control, human resource management, and managing operating costs.

Retail grocery store leadership experience is a must!

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ensure that each customer receives outstanding service by providing a customer friendly environment which includes greeting and acknowledging every customer, maintaining outstanding standards, solid product knowledge and all other components of customer service.
• Help educate customers about our products and our store philosophy.
• Analyze and measure business trends, develop and implement plans to maximize sales and meet or exceed goals and objectives.
• Control shrink, expenses and payroll.
• Ensure appropriate merchandise stock level, merchandise adjacencies and presentations; signing, and assortment in all departments; ensure sales floor is adequately stocked.
• Review department/store trends and recommend and initiate changes for maximizing goals and objectives.
• Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures through regular store management and staff meetings, store walk-through and audits, etc.
• Continually evaluate and react to performance issues and actively recruit candidates. Be willing to coach and mentor sales associates and management staff.
• Train and develop department managers in all aspects of the business; direct and monitor training and development for store personnel.
• Be willing to manage, motivate, lead and work on sales floor.
• Conduct weekly budget meeting with key personnel (Asst. Mgr., Produce Dept Head, Grocery Dept Head, Supplement Dept Head, Wellness Dept Head).
• Develop and maintain good relations with all vendors.
• Schedule events to include vendor participation.
• Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This position may have direct supervision of other management personnel as well as office personnel, is responsible for the overall performance management and participates in hiring of the employees within the every department of the store.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This job operates in a retail environment with merchandise displays and items available for purchase in inventory.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds without assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

TRAVEL: Local and regional travel may be required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: A high school diploma or GED and at least 5 years of retail or grocery store experience. Must have at minimum of 2 years of supervisory or lead role experience. Knowledge of natural and organic foods and products preferred. Knowledge in supplements is highly desired. A liquor license is required to be obtained within 30 days of employment for certain store locations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurements, volume, and distance.

COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, an employee should have a working knowledge of Microsoft office and internet usage.
