Laboratory Assistant – Early Phase Clinical Research

Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the collection, processing, labelling and preparation of clinical and pharmacokinetic (PK/PD) specimens according to study protocols.
- Monitor timed biological specimen collections, including urine and other protocol-required samples.
- Maintain laboratory workspaces, equipment and collection areas to ensure they remain organised, stocked and inspection-ready.
- Prepare laboratory requisitions and coordinate shipment of samples to external reference laboratories.
- Transport collected specimens between clinical and laboratory departments while maintaining chain of custody and sample integrity.
- Accurately complete laboratory documentation and data entry in accordance with study procedures and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
- Promptly communicate abnormal findings, participant concerns or protocol deviations to the appropriate clinical staff.
- Support participant safety, comfort and confidentiality throughout all study-related procedures.
- Assist with general laboratory administration and additional operational duties as required.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Phlebotomy Technician certification or at least six months' experience performing venepuncture in a clinical or healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and specimen handling procedures.
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Competency using Microsoft Office applications and electronic data systems.
Desirable
- Previous experience within clinical research or clinical trials.
- Familiarity with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and ICH guidelines.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Experience working with laboratory information or clinical trial management systems.
This role may involve occasional evenings, early mornings, weekends or project-based scheduling depending on study requirements.
