Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Lowboy Driver to join our dynamic transportation team. In this role, you will be responsible for safely operating a lowboy trailer, which is designed for transporting heavy and oversized loads, including construction equipment, machinery, and other large freight. Your expertise in commercial truck driving, route planning, and cargo handling will ensure timely deliveries while adhering to all safety and regulatory standards. Responsibilities
- Safely operate a lowboy trailer for over-the-road (OTR) routes, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and DOT (Department of Transportation) standards.
- Load and unload heavy equipment or freight using manual handling techniques and appropriate safety procedures.
- Navigate using GPS systems to plan efficient routes, optimize delivery schedules, and respond to real-time traffic updates.
- Transport a variety of cargo including heavy machinery, hazardous materials (hazmat), refrigerated items, flatbed loads, tanker shipments, and dangerous goods with precision and care.
- Secure loads properly using straps, chains, or other securing devices to prevent shifting or damage during transit.
- Maintain accurate delivery documentation, logs, and reports in accordance with logistics cargo handling protocols.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections before and after trips; report any mechanical issues or safety concerns promptly.
Experience
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a focus on tractor-trailer operations, including load & unload procedures.
- Prior delivery driver experience with route driving across long distances or OTR routes preferred.
- Familiarity with truck loading and unloading techniques for various types of freight such as flatbed or tanker loads.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials regulations (Hazmat) and dangerous goods handling is highly desirable.
- Ability to operate manual transmission trucks confidently while adhering to safety standards.
- Strong understanding of FMCSA regulations, DOT compliance, and hazardous materials regulations applicable to commercial trucking.
- Experience with refrigerated trailers or specialized equipment is a plus but not required.
