Welding Instructor (Metal Fabrication and Joining )

GREATER NEW BEDFORD REGIONAL VOCATIONAL TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL  2026-2027 School Year 

10 Month Position - School year (185 days)

TITLE:   Welding/Metal Fabrication Instructor

REPORTS TO: Department Administrator 

WORK YEAR:  185 Days

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Meets and instructs assigned students in designated locations and times. 

1. Develops and maintains an environment conducive to effective learning. 

1. Prepare for assigned classes and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of superior. 

1. Assists students to set and maintain standards of appropriate behavior. 

1. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media to meet the needs of the students. 

1. Implements the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives. 

1. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. 

1. Evaluates student progress on a continuing basis. 

1. Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation. 

1. Enforces school rules, administrative regulations, and board policy. 

1. Is available to meet with students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so. 

1. Participates in faculty meetings. 

1. Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods. 

1. Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials. 

1. Maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning their educational and behavioral progress. 

1. Participates in staff and faculty meetings. 

1. Participates in the evaluation process. 

1. Performs other duties as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:   Welding or Metal Fab and Joining License - Chap. 74 Approval preferred  or eligible for 1 year waiver issued by DESE with 5 years of experience.

Metal Fabrication & Joining Technologies – Preliminary Vocational Technical Teacher License Requirement:

High school diploma or the equivalent

Five years of recent (within the last seven years), full-time employment experience directly related to metal fabrication & joining technologies

 Passing score of at least 70% on each test (written test and performance test) in metal fabrication & joining technologies

One of the following:

 - achieve a passing score on the Vocational Technical Literacy Skills Test (VTLST)

 - achieve a passing score on the Communication and Literacy Skills Test
