Title: Tourism Coordinator Type: Part-time
Hours per week: 25 to 30 hours a week
Reports to: Director of Operations & Special Events
Pay Scale: $13 - $17 hourly rate DOE
Job Overview: Responsible for the coordination of the tourism program of the Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce.
Summary: The Tourism Coordinator plans, organizes, and promotes local tourism and events, requiring strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills to market destinations, manage partnerships with businesses and hotels, and coordinate logistics for visitors and events. Typical duties include maintaining event calendars, developing marketing campaigns, liaising with tourism partners, assisting visitors, and managing promotional materials and budgets for a specific region or organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Event Management & Program:
- Plan, coordinate, and execute local events to attract tourists and showcase attractions.
- Marketing & Promotion:
- Develop and implement tourism plans, create marketing materials, and promote tourism products and attractions through various channels. Manage social media and website content to engage with potential visitors. Create promotional materials like brochures, advertisements & newsletters.
- Develop and execute marketing and sales campaigns to raise awareness of local attractions and events.
- Partner Collaboration:
- Collaborate with local businesses, hotels, tourism partners, and industry stakeholders to build relationships and enhance tourism offerings.
- Act as a liaison between the tourism office and other stakeholders.
- Visitor Services:
- Assist Tourism Liaison with visitors, answering questions, providing information, and ensuring a positive experience. Provide on-site support for tours and events as needed.
- Administrative Duties:
- Maintain tourism and event calendars, respond to inquiries, and manage budget and grant programs. Assist with budget preparation and manage grant applications.

Essential Skills & Qualifications:
- Communication:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with the public and promoting destinations.
- Organization & Planning:
- Strong ability to organize work, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage complex projects like events and campaigns.
- Customer Service:
- A welcoming and positive attitude to assist visitors and manage client needs effectively.
- Marketing & Tech Skills:
- Proficiency in graphic design, media training, networking, and using booking platforms and travel software.
- Adaptability:
- The ability to handle unexpected situations and manage changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- An Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
- Interest in Marketing, Community relations, Graphic design and photography industries.
- Diverse and experienced portfolio of work including samples of graphic design, illustration and photography.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
- Experience with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign & Canva (strongly preferred)
- Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Powerpoint)
- Must be able to perform under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
- Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
- Ability to work flexible hours with prior notification
- High school diploma or GED required
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
- Reliable form of transportation
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
