Position Overview
GMCA is seeking a part-time Carpentry Instructor to teach foundational carpentry skills to high school students enrolled in our skilled trades training program. The ideal candidate is an experienced craft professional who enjoys mentoring youth and helping them gain the confidence and skills needed for successful careers in construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver instruction covering core carpentry topics, including:
- Building materials and fasteners
- Reading basic drawings and layouts
- Floor, wall, and roof systems
- Basic stairs and related components
- Provide hands-on demonstrations and ensure safe tool and equipment usage.
- Maintain a positive, supportive, and professional learning environment.
- Track student progress and communicate as needed with program leadership.
- Uphold GMCA and NCCER standards, policies, and instructional requirements.
- Model professional conduct, safety practices, integrity, and teamwork.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years carpentry experience.
- Journeyman-level knowledge and proficiency in the trade.
- Ability to teach, demonstrate skills, and communicate clearly.
- Preferred: Experience working with high school students or young adults.
- Must pass background checks and any required instructor certifications (supported by GMCA).
