Great Western Specialty Systems (GWSS) is a New Mexico-based specialty electrical contractor providing design, installation, and service of electronic systems including access control, video surveillance, fire alarm, audiovisual systems, intercom, structured cabling, and other low-voltage technologies.
We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Specialty Systems Estimator to join our growing team. This position plays a critical role in the success of our company by identifying project requirements, developing accurate and competitive estimates, and helping secure profitable work.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced estimator or a field technician looking to transition into an office-based role. GWSS believes technical field knowledge is one of the strongest foundations for becoming a successful estimator.
Position Responsibilities
· Review construction drawings, specifications, bid documents, and project requirements.
· Perform quantity takeoffs and develop accurate material and labor estimates.
· Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
· Identify scope gaps, conflicts, and potential risks.
· Prepare requests for information (RFIs) and clarifications during the bidding process.
· Develop project budgets, proposals, and bid packages.
· Coordinate with project managers, field personnel, and company leadership during estimate development.
· Participate in estimate reviews and bid strategy discussions.
· Assist with value engineering and alternative solutions that benefit the customer.
· Maintain estimating databases, pricing information, and historical project cost data.
· Support the successful handoff of awarded projects to project management and operations teams.
· Continually improve estimating procedures and contribute to the growth and scalability of the department.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications
· Experience in construction, electrical, low-voltage, or electronic systems industries.
· Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
· Strong mathematical skills and attention to detail.
· Excellent organization and time management skills.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.
· High level of professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience estimating low-voltage systems including access control, CCTV, fire alarm, audiovisual, networking, or structured cabling.
· Previous field installation or service experience.
· Experience with estimating software platforms.
· Knowledge of construction contracts, procurement processes, and project scheduling.
· Familiarity with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or similar construction document tools.

Compensation will be based on experience and qualifications. Candidates with strong technical knowledge of low-voltage systems, estimating experience, or proven field expertise are encouraged to apply.
