Responsible for prescribing medication, performing surgeries, and ensuring comprehensive patient care through all stages of treatment, including pre-operative, intra-operative, and postoperative care. Work closely with medical teams, including nurses, anesthesiologists, and other specialists, to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Diagnose internal injuries and diseases through patient examinations and medical history analysis. Prescribe appropriate medications and recommend surgical procedures when necessary. Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including X-rays, CT scans, and MRls, to determine the best course of action for treatment. Assess the results of these tests to evaluate the patient’s condition. Evaluate whether surgery is required based on patient records, diagnostic tests, and clinical examination. Make decisions regarding the necessity of surgery and the specific surgical intervention required. Perform preoperative examinations to assess patients' physical condition and suitability for surgery. Explain the procedures to patients, discussing potential risks and expected outcomes. Determine the type of surgery required, and coordinate with nurses, anesthesiologists, and other specialists involved in the procedure. Ensure all necessary resources, including instruments and medical supplies, are prepared for the operation. Perform a wide range of surgeries, including bariatric surgery, adhering to accepted medical practices and standards. Conduct surgeries with precision, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients. Order post-operative treatments, including antibiotics, special diets, sedatives, and other medications. Monitor recovery, address complications, and provide ongoing care throughout the recovery process. Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including surgical reports, test results, and treatment plans. Ensure all documentation is completed in compliance with medical regulations and hospital policies. Collaborate with other medical professionals, including referring patients to specialists and consulting with fellow doctors on complex cases. Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide comprehensive care. Participate in research activities focused on advancing surgical techniques, procedures, and patient care protocols
Qualifications:
Minimum Prerequisites: M.D. or D.O. degree or foreign equivalent, completion of residency training program in general surgery, an Iowa medical license, and ability to obtain staff privileges at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center.
