Summary:

Great River Energy (GRE) is seeking a renewable energy resource specialist to assist in implementing GRE’s renewable energy power supply portfolio position, including solicitation, internal evaluation, contract negotiations, communications, administration, and procurement of renewable energy power supply to meet load and regulatory requirements while maximizing optionality and minimizing costs.


Total Rewards:

A typical starting range for this position is $116,000 - $160,000 annually. We offer market competitive base pay and adjust our offer accordingly based upon the value of the candidate’s knowledge, skills and experience. Responsibilities: Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to

Contribute to the acquisition, coordination, and optimization of renewable energy resources in GRE’s resource portfolio.

Plan and ensure compliance with federal, state, and member renewable energy and carbon-reduction goals and requirements.

Develop strategies and recommendations to leadership on size, type and timing of renewable energy power supply execution, extension and/or termination.

Execute renewable energy transactions within regulatory and business timeframes that comply with contractual, regulatory and legislative commitments.

Maximize availability of renewable purchased power resources through enforcing contract provisions, attention to commercial operation dates, coordination of production schedules, identification of transmission issues, and development of solutions, dispute resolution, and other creative solutions.

Develop and manage renewable energy Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for GRE and our member-owners.

Evaluate and contribute to the formulation of GRE’s self-owned wind, solar, and storage adoption strategy.

Oversee Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) database management as GRE’s Midwest Renewable Energy Tracking System (M-RETS)/CleanCounts administrator.

Support REC inventory optimization, purchase and sale opportunity analysis and purchase and sale transactions.

Support the development of cost-effective renewable energy legislative, policy, and regulatory strategies, and advocate those strategies at local, state, and regional levels.

Serve as source of expertise for developing renewable technologies, costs, and current events for leadership.

Oversee preparation of GRE’s renewable energy filings to regulatory agencies

Provide direct support to GRE’s All Requirements Members and GRE member resources staff as an expert on distributed energy resource and energy storage technologies.

Engage with GRE’s membership on renewable energy issues and foster positive member relations.

Assist with development of resource portfolios to serve potential data center loads

Maintain DER and energy storage pricing and price trends and provide input and support for member-owner’s planning purposes.

Work with internal GRE experts on DER compliance, tracking, and transmission/distribution studies and impacts of projects.

Educate and communicate critical renewable energy and energy storage strategies, issues, regulatory requirements, and policy to GRE’s members.

Monitor and develop utilization strategies for next generation technologies including solar, hydrogen, nuclear, advanced geothermal, and storage that support organizational renewable energy and carbon-reduction goals.

Lead and contribute to pilot projects that develop business processes and identify technology solutions to assist in integration of DERs and portfolio renewables.

Contribute to the deployment of grid-scale storage technology as a resource within GRE’s portfolio.

Monitor and recommend renewable and carbon free energy resources of relevant industry organizations such as EPRI, NRECA, Energy System Integration Group (ESIG), and National Renewables Cooperative Organization (NRCO)

Review, reconcile and manage renewable electric utility contracts and support billing for existing Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)


Qualifications:

Knowledge typically acquired through a bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, economics or equivalent and 5 years of progressively responsible experience in an electric power or renewable energy industry. Must have thorough knowledge of wind, solar, storage and distributed energy industries. Must have experience in project management. Must be able to develop strategies, recommendations, and communication to leadership and external stakeholders on renewable energy opportunities and issues. Prior experience with negotiations and contract structure required. Experience with power purchase agreement negotiations preferred.
