Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional (QIDP) to provide specialized support and care for individuals with developmental disabilities, including autism, dementia, and other cognitive impairments. This role involves developing and implementing individualized care plans, coordinating services, and ensuring the well-being of residents in various settings such as assisted living, nursing homes, and home care environments. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in social work, nursing, or related fields, with experience working with people with disabilities and complex health needs. Duties
- Develop, implement, and monitor personalized care plans tailored to residents' needs, including behavior management and medical requirements
- Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using equipment like Hoyer lifts and resident lifts
- Administer medications following HIPAA guidelines and medical terminology protocols
- Monitor vital signs and perform health assessments; recognize signs of health deterioration or behavioral changes
- Provide direct support for residents with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, autism, or other developmental disabilities
- Assist with meal preparation and ensure nutritional needs are met in accordance with dietary plans
- Maintain accurate documentation using EMR systems; record progress notes and incident reports
- Manage conflict resolution and behavior management strategies to promote a safe environment
- Coordinate transportation for residents as needed; ensure safe driving practices
- Support residents during medical appointments or hospital visits; assist with hospice or palliative care when necessary
- Maintain cleanliness of the living environment in compliance with health standards
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including nurses, social workers, case managers, and family members to optimize resident care
Experience
- Prior experience working in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home care environments preferred
- Experience assisting with ADLs and providing personal care for seniors or individuals with disabilities
- Knowledge of dementia care, Alzheimer's care, memory care, behavioral management techniques, and hospice support
- Familiarity with EMR systems for documentation; understanding of medical terminology and HIPAA regulations
- Background in caregiving roles involving patient care, medication administration, or direct support services
- Experience working with individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities is highly desirable
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely; experience operating lifts such as Hoyer lifts is advantageous
- First aid certification is preferred; CPR certification is a plus
- Valid driver's license for transportation duties; clean driving record preferred
