Sales Associate Job Description
This role is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, driving sales growth, and maintaining a high level of merchandise presentation. The ideal candidate will be steadfast in living Great Lakes Ace Hardware's Mission, Vision, and Core Values every day.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Greet customers and assist with answering questions about merchandise and locating products.
- Use the S.A.L.E.S. process to help customers find everything on their lists.
- Complete all company and departmental paperwork accurately, including price changes and inventory reports.
- Receive, unpack, and stock merchandise, checking paperwork against items received when required.
- Display and maintain merchandise on end caps, shelves, counters, or tables following company plan-ogram guidelines.
- Maintain on-hand integrity through inventory adjustment reports and follow nightly maintenance checklists to ensure proper store recovery and cleanliness.
- Stay familiar with new products and ad merchandise.
- Have sound awareness of surroundings, customers, etc., and practice loss prevention techniques to minimize shoplifting losses.
- Working knowledge of tools available to operate the store, including RF Gun, Back Office Procedures, and Store Opportunities.
- FOLLOW GLA policies and procedures for all transactions.
- Engage customers to ensure they are receiving all benefits of being an Ace Rewards member and actively seek participation from them.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with color matching and mixing paint.
- Assist and/or make recommendations to customers in service areas within the store, including chain, rope, key, and glass cutting, screen repair, and knife sharpening.
- Operate cash register by scanning merchandise, engaging customers through suggestive selling, proper tendering of each transaction, and thanking customers for shopping at GLA.
Requirements:
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and customers.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
- Mathematical skills to perform calculations and manage inventory.
- Reasoning ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions and deal with problems involving several concrete variables.
- Physical demands include walking, standing, climbing ladders, reaching, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, lifting up to 40 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds with assistance.
Work Environment:
- Occasional work near moving mechanical parts.
- Moderate noise level in the work environment.
Compensation Details:
$15.00 per hour
