What you'll do
- Own pre-op and operational inspections, plus the document reviews that go with them.
- Partner with porters to keep the facility (inside and out) audit-ready and compliant with SSOPs/GMPs.
- Coordinate across departments to protect food safety and deliver consistent product quality.
- Verify and trend cooler/freezer temperatures daily.
- Review daily receiving records and escalate issues promptly.
- Perform HACCP direct observations; audit and sign off on records.
- Quality check daily QC paperwork for completeness and accuracy.
- Conduct a daily walk-through with the on-duty inspector.
- Lead monthly internal audits and close findings.
- Manage weekly environmental swabbing; review results and implement corrective actions.
- Collect samples for microbiological testing; interpret results and drive remediation.
- Update and manage the Master Cleaning Schedule.
- Coach, direct, and develop QC Technicians.
- Reassess HACCP and the Food Quality Plan at the required cadence.
- Maintain and improve SQF Food Safety and Food Quality Fundamentals (policies).
- Observe production on all shifts to ensure customer-ready outcomes.
- Build strong working relationships with the USDA Inspector; stay up to date on USDA regulations.
- Monitor sanitation effectiveness and adherence.
- Administer the corrective action report database and validate effectiveness.
- Analyze customer complaints and overall trends to identify improvement opportunities.
- Publish monthly KPI reports and communicate results.
- Support departmental goals, objectives, and systems implementation.
- Oversee work plans and professional training for direct and indirect reports.
- Immediately report unsafe or hazardous conditions or acts to management.
- Recommend labor/cost controls and process enhancements.
- Ensure full compliance with the SQF Food Safety Code for Manufacturing.
- Perform other duties as assigned or volunteered.

- Report any issues regarding food safety or quality to supervision and/or quality assurance.
- Report any risks or any evidence of unsafe or out-of-specification product, equipment, packaging or raw materials to a designated manager to enable the resolution of issues requiring immediate attention.
- Spanish/English bilingual; able to communicate across diverse teams.
- Average computer literacy.
- Hands-on experience working with USDA facility and Health Inspectors.
- Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to cross-train team members.
- Working knowledge of SSOP, GMP, and SQF requirements.
- At least two years of management experience.
- Comfort addressing common inquiries from customers and regulatory agencies.
- High school Diploma; State of Illinois Food Sanitation Certification.
- Associate’s degree or 5 years in the food industry preferred.
- HACCP certification.
- SQF certification.
- Comfort working in cold environments.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods.
- Ability to push and pull heavy loads.
