Job Description
The Die Maker's primary responsibilities include preparing the dies for press, monitoring the process during pre-make ready, and checking the final product for quality.
Key Objectives:
- Knight incoming dies, re-knight existing dies, and provide assistance to operators as needed.
Equipment Utilized:
- Easy Bender Turbo
- Iberica 105 Blanker
- Bobst NovaCut
- Collaborate with the CAD department to ensure timely scheduling.
- Pull files on Easy Bender Turbo.
- Knight new dies.
- Ruler up die according to stock and caliper specifications.
- Tap off sample and compare it with the CAD sample for structural integrity.
- Prepare all tooling for the die cutting equipment as per scheduled requirements.
- Nick and rubber steel rule dies in accordance with equipment guidelines.
- Prepare counter plates for press usage, adhering to job-specific requirements (matrix, phenolic, steel).
- Build and preset stripping components to make the press operational.
- Build and preset blanking components to prepare the press for use.
- Manage tooling storage and die logs.
- Evaluate tooling returned from previous jobs.
- Review notes on the job jacket and die log if necessary (re-knife/re-work).
- Mount emboss/deboss dies.
- Maintain an adequate inventory of die room supplies.
- Communicate with other departments regarding status updates.
- Participate in special projects, including repairs and jig construction.
- Suggest and implement improvements within the department and/or other departments.
- Ensure adherence to safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment. This includes reporting safety hazards when necessary.
