Position Summary

The IT Technician is responsible for installing, testing, and maintaining computer systems and networks aiming for the highest functionality. The goal is to build and maintain updated and efficient computer systems and networks to optimize the role of technology.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install and test network hardware, software, and upgrades, and identify and resolve issues.
  • Installing and configuring appropriate software and functions according to specifications.
  • Assist with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of computer/network equipment.
  • Implement and maintain all system configurations.
  • Perform system maintenance on technology equipment e.g., computers, projectors.
  • Set up workstations with computers and necessary peripheral devices (routers, switches, access points, printers etc.).
  • Assist with developing and maintaining local networks in ways that optimize performance.
  • Ensure security and privacy of networks and computer systems.
  • Organize and schedule upgrades and maintenance.
  • Perform troubleshooting to diagnose and resolve problems (repair or replace parts, debugging etc.)
  • Maintain records/logs of repairs and fixes and maintenance schedule.
  • Identify computer or network equipment shortages and place orders.
  • Provide orientation and guidance to users on how to operate new software and computer equipment.
  • Work with software and hardware vendors to maintain appropriate product support.
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Competencies, and Strengths

Education/Certification: associate degree in computer science or management information systems preferred or a bachelor’s degree in IT, or equivalent experience in computer/network administration.

Experience: At a minimum, 3 years in IT/network experience, also experience in education-related industry experience strongly preferred.

Certification: CompTIA A , Microsoft Certified IT Professional, IT related certifications (recommended)

Special Skills:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365, and Google admin console.
  • Knowledge of computer/network hardware and software applications including network. servers, wireless access points, switches, printers, and other equipment.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve computer network problems.
  • Good knowledge of internet security and data privacy principles.
  • Ability to work with multiple operating systems and network protocols.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve computer network problems.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Additional Requirements

Type of fingerprint clearance: Must possess or obtain a valid Texas Department of Public Safety fingerprint clearance.

Physical functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.

Travel required: Travel locally to the various academies within Texas. Either in San Antonio or North Texas.
