Controller (Accounting)

JOB SUMMARY

The Controller serves as the senior financial leader for Great Bend Industries and is a key member of the leadership team. This position is responsible for directing all accounting and financial operations while providing strategic financial guidance to improve profitability, operational performance, and long-term business growth. The Controller ensures the integrity of financial reporting, maintains strong internal controls, manages cash flow, oversees budgeting and forecasting, and partners with management and operations to support data-driven decision making.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Leadership

· Direct all accounting operations including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and cost accounting.

· Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.

· Prepare and present financial statements, operating reports, forecasts, and key performance indicators for management.

· Analyze operating results and recommend actions to improve profitability, reduce costs, and increase operational efficiency.

· Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company accounting policies.

Financial Planning & Analysis

· Assist in the annual budgeting process and periodic financial forecasting.

· Monitor financial performance against budget and explain significant variances.

· Provide profitability analysis by product line, customer, department, and project.

· Support strategic planning through financial modeling and business analysis.

· Develop meaningful metrics to improve decision making throughout the organization.

Manufacturing & Cost Accounting

· Oversee standard cost system, labor rates, overhead allocation, and product costing.

· Assist and monitor inventory valuation, cycle counts, and annual physical inventories.

· Analyze manufacturing variances including labor, material, overhead, scrap, and inventory adjustments.

· Work closely with operations to improve manufacturing performance and inventory accuracy.

Internal Controls & Compliance

· Develop, maintain, and continuously improve internal financial controls.

· Safeguard company assets through sound accounting procedures.

· Coordinate annual financial audits, tax reporting, workers' compensation audits, retirement plan audits, and other compliance activities.

· Maintain accounting policies and ensure adherence to company procedures.

· Support continuous improvement initiatives within accounting and throughout the organization.

Cash Management

· Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and working capital.

· Monitor receivables, collections, and payables to maximize cash generation.

· Oversee capital expenditure tracking and fixed asset accounting.

· Assist with financing activities and capital investment analysis.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.

· Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience.

· Experience with ERP systems and standard cost accounting.

· Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.

· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to travel up to 10% of the time, including overnight travel.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS

· Manufacturing accounting experience.

· Master’s degree in accounting or finance.

· 10 years’ experience in a directly related role.

· CPA License

Pay: $85,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
