The Great Basin Institute is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead our archaeological field team in the Sequoia National Forest. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned field leader to work on cultural resource management projects, collaborating with USFS staff, academic institutions, and other partners.
">Job Summary
The Archaeology Crew Lead will be responsible for leading a team of 2-6 people in conducting field surveys, site recording, and monitoring for various projects within the Sequoia National Forest. The successful candidate will have a strong background in archaeology, excellent leadership skills, and experience working in remote field settings.
Responsibilities
- Lead and collaborate with agency personnel and crew members to support field safety, communication, planning, logistics, quality assurance, field implementation, and reporting efforts.
- Prepare California DPR site records, GIS maps, and photographic records, as well as inputting data to the USFS heritage database.
- Perform literature reviews and project background research.
- Assist with Section 106 and Section 110 reporting, including drafting project maps.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates must have:
- Bachelor's degree in anthropology, archaeology or related discipline, including relevant field methods training coursework.
- At least two years of field leadership experience.
- Previous work experience in the Sierra Nevada region and/or the Great Basin.
- Knowledge of cultural resource management issues in the Western United States.
- Advanced skill using specialized software such as Microsoft Office Suite, ArcPro GIS, and Google Earth.
