Job Summary
Agricultural Technician is responsible for assisting with general agricultural operations in field, row and vegetable crops. Key responsibilities include setting up drip, furrow, flood and sprinkler irrigation systems, operating tractors and equipment, and conducting pre-use inspections of vehicles and equipment. Additionally, the Agricultural Technician will assist with mixing and applying agricultural chemicals, spray chemicals using hand and PTO driven sprayers, and participate in occasional set ups of research plots and data collection.
Salary Information
The hourly salary range for this position is $20.81 to $24.39 per hour.
Key Responsibilities
60%: Assist with general agricultural operations in field, row and vegetable crops, including setting up irrigation systems and operating equipment. 20%: Operate tractors, implements, trucks, and small handheld tools and equipment, making adjustments or repairs as needed. Conduct pre-use inspections of vehicles and equipment, and assist with general cleanup and maintenance of facilities. 20%: Participate in occasional set-ups of research plots and data collection, and provide support for tours, grower field days, and workshops.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, candidates should have a high school diploma and/or equivalent certification/experience/training. They should also possess skills to determine use and maintenance of equipment, operate hand and power tools, understand and apply safe work practices for research field trials and chemical applications, and have knowledge of cultural practices for field, row, and vegetable crops. Furthermore, candidates should be familiar with pesticide regulations, safety procedures, and methods of application.
Preferred Skills
Additional desirable skills include the ability to operate light and medium-sized trucks, tractors, and attached implements, assist with mixing, calibration, and application of agricultural sprays, and communicate verbally and in writing. Candidates should also be able to interpret and understand all manuals, directives, and guidelines pertinent to job functions.
Special Conditions of Employment
This position requires a valid California driver's license, a driving record that meets local policies and procedures, and enrollment in the California Employer Pull Notice Program. The incumbent may be required to travel on flexible schedules and occasionally work overtime and weekends.
