Position Overview
The Site Construction Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of multiple API-650 field-erected storage tanks on a single project site. This role serves as the senior on-site authority and is accountable for safety, quality, schedule, productivity, and coordination of all field construction activities from mobilization through final turnover.
The position requires hands-on leadership, strong API-650 technical knowledge, and proven experience managing concurrent tank construction work fronts.
Key Responsibilities
Site Leadership & Execution
- Lead and manage simultaneous construction of multiple API-650 tanks, including bottoms, shells, roofs, and hydrostatic testing.
- Plan and sequence work to support overlapping tank activities without congestion or safety risk.
- Direct foremen, craft labor, and subcontractors across multiple work fronts
- Maintain full responsibility for daily site operations and execution performance.
Safety Management
- Enforce company, Owner, and regulatory safety requirements.
- Lead daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements including confined space, hot work, lifting, and fall protection.
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture with zero-incident expectations.
Quality & Code Compliance
- Ensure all work complies with API-650, project specifications, approved drawings, and inspection requirements.
- Coordinate quality control activities including welding inspections, NDE (RT, UT, VT, vacuum box), and coatings inspections.
- Ensure proper execution of Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), hold points, and documentation.
Schedule & Productivity Control
- Manage site schedules and manpower loading across multiple tanks.
- Coordinate shared resources such as cranes, welding equipment, NDE crews, and coatings subcontractors.
- Monitor daily productivity and implement recovery actions as required.
- Support milestone achievement and phased tank turnover
Subcontractor & Stakeholder Coordination
- Supervise and coordinate subcontractors including welding labor, NDE, coatings, and insulation.
- Serve as the primary on-site interface with Owners, inspectors, and EPC representatives.
- Resolve field issues proactively to prevent schedule or quality impacts.
Closeout & Turnover
- Lead hydrostatic testing, punch list resolution, and final inspections.
- Ensure all construction documentation is complete and accurate.
- Support final turnover and project closeout activities.
Required Qualifications
- 8 years’ experience in field-erected storage tank construction
- 3 years in a Site Manager, Superintendent, or Lead Foreman role on API-650 tanks
- Proven experience managing multi-tank construction projects.
- Strong working knowledge of:
- API-650 requirements
- Tank welding processes and sequencing
- NDE methods and acceptance criteria
- Hydrostatic testing and turnover procedures
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
- CWI (Certified Welding Inspector)
- Experience on power, industrial, or EPC-led tank programs
- Familiarity with semi-automatic or automatic tank welding systems
Work Environment
- Field-based position on large industrial or power project sites
- Extended work hours during critical construction phases
