Kitchen Staff / Shelter Staff
Grayson Crisis Center is seeking dependable Kitchen Staff / Shelter Staff to support daily shelter operations. This position is responsible for preparing meals, assisting with food service, maintaining a clean kitchen, and helping with general shelter cleaning and janitorial duties.
This position must be able to cook for up to 35 individuals, while also adjusting meal preparation when the number of residents changes with little notice. Weekend availability is required.
Responsibilities:
Prepare, cook, and serve meals for shelter residents.
Adjust meals and portions based on the daily number of residents.
Prepare meals for up to 35 individuals.
Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen.
Wash dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
Clean and sanitize counters, tables, appliances, refrigerators, freezers, pantry areas, and food-preparation spaces.
Store, label, and rotate food properly.
Monitor food and kitchen supplies and report needs to the Financial Coordinator.
Receive, organize, and store food donations and kitchen supplies.
Follow food-safety, sanitation, and cleanliness procedures.
Assist with janitorial duties, including sweeping, mopping, trash removal, restroom cleaning, laundry support, and common-area cleaning.
Help maintain a clean, respectful, and trauma-informed shelter environment.
Communicate professionally with residents, staff, volunteers, and supervisors.
Maintain client and agency confidentiality at all times.
Report maintenance, safety, supply, or resident-related concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
Work weekends, holidays, and flexible hours as shelter needs require.
Qualifications:
Experience cooking for groups preferred.
Ability to prepare meals for up to 35 individuals.
Ability to adjust quickly when shelter census changes.
Ability to follow food-safety and cleaning procedures.
Must be available to work weekends.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
Ability to work respectfully with survivors, children, staff, and volunteers.
Ability to stand, bend, lift, carry, clean, and perform physical duties throughout the shift.
Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
Valid driver’s license preferred.
