Financial Aid Advisor III:  Provides leadership and subject matter expertise in the financial aid department to ensure accuracy and compliance in the marketing, processing, and awarding of student financial aid.

 The salary range for this position is $20.69 to $31.04 per hour.

  • Tuition-FT employees, their spouse & dependents are eligible for coverage of Grayson College tuition.  
 
  • 40%   Determines eligibility; processes and awards scholarships, waivers, exemptions, vouchers, and all state and federal aid.
  • 25%   Assists students, parents, and college staff with complex or escalated financial aid inquiries, application challenges, and loan concerns in person, in writing, by telephone, or other electronic means.
  • 10%  Develops annual forms and document sequencing so student forms can be completed electronically.
  • 10%  Develops marketing materials and presentations and ensures website compliance for the Office of Financial Aid. Conducts financial aid workshops and financial literacy seminars for new and prospective students and community groups.
  • 5%    Attends federal financial aid training, workshops, seminars, and conferences in order to maintain current knowledge of financial aid requirements and regulations.
  • 5%    Communicates with federal and state agencies and lenders regarding reporting requirements and regulations regarding financial aid either in person, in writing, by telephone, or other electronic means.
  • 5%     Performs other job related duties as assigned.

  3. Provides friendly, courteous, and professional service to students, parents, staff, and community members.
  4. Works with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy; strives for zero errors in the awarding of financial aid.
  5. Maintains a current knowledge of federal, state, and institutional packaging policies and procedures that pertain to financial assistance.
  6. Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to federal and state financial aid; adheres to institutional policies and procedures for processing financial aid.
  7. Maintains the confidentiality of student information and other private records.
  8. Works independently to handle multiple assignments and projects with limited supervision.

  • Experience: Two years to five years of similar or related experience.
  • Education: (1) A Bachelor's Degree or (2) equivalent experience or (3) previous experience as a Financial Aid Advisor.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the college for the purpose of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
  • Other Skills: This position requires analysis, decision-making, and problem-solving. Strong interpersonal, customer service, communication, and presentation skills are also required.  Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new applications as needed to complete work assignments.
  • Physical Requirements: The work is typically sedentary. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to do the work
  • Work Environment: Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a typical office.
