We're looking for a Technical Writer to join our team! This position will focus on creating and managing technical documentation for automation systems and equipment with precision, clarity, and consistency. The ideal candidate will have a strong sense of responsibility, a detail-oriented mindset, and the ability to translate complex technical concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, the Technical Writer will produce user manuals, SOPs, API documentation, and other materials that support product usability, compliance, and industry standards.
General Job Duties:
- Develop and maintain technical documentation for automation systems and manufacturing processes
Create user manuals, installation guides, SOPs, API documentation, training and maintenance manuals for automated equipment
Collaborate with engineers, developers, QA, and product managers to gather and interpret technical information
Translate complex concepts into clear, concise, and engaging content for technical and non-technical audiences
Manage the documentation lifecycle from planning and creation to publishing and updates
Incorporate visuals such as diagrams, schematics, and flowcharts to enhance comprehension
Ensure documentation complies with industry standards (e.g., ISO 13485, FDA) and internal style guides
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Needed:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Communication, English, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
- 5 to 10 years of relevant working experience with:
Technical writing, preferably in automation, manufacturing, or industrial engineering
Familiarity with automation technologies such as PLCs, robotics, and SCADA systems
Experience with regulatory documentation in industries like medical, pharmaceutical, or automotive
Ability to interpret technical drawings and engineering graphics
Understanding of software development processes and agile methodologies

Preferred Experience:
Experience with visual design tools (e.g., Visio, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)
Familiarity with CMS platforms and version control systems (e.g., Git, SharePoint)

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
This position will be based out of one of our office locations in Pittsburgh, PA; Kalamazoo, MI; St. Louis, MO; or Columbus, OH. It follows a hybrid in-office schedule, with occasional travel required to collaborate with teams or support onsite documentation efforts.
