Senior Quality Manager – Government Programs
Overview:
Seeking a hands-on Senior Quality Manager to lead quality initiatives across complex product lifecycles within a high-performance engineering environment. This role combines strategic leadership with direct technical involvement, overseeing quality engineering activities across development, manufacturing, and sustainment. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in hardware and/or software quality, supplier improvement, and government compliance, along with a passion for mentoring teams and driving continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the lead Quality Engineer for a major program, overseeing planning, execution, and success metrics.
- Partner with program management, engineering, and operations teams to ensure all quality goals and compliance standards are met.
- Lead and develop a high-performing team of quality engineers to support program and enterprise objectives.
- Drive supplier quality improvement initiatives in collaboration with Supply Chain and Operations.
- Work closely with Reliability Engineering to monitor and enhance system reliability and product availability.
- Collaborate with Engineering to develop automation, testing, and failure-detection processes.
- Establish and track Quality Assurance (QA) metrics and key performance indicators across multiple sites.
- Support new business and emerging market initiatives by implementing scalable quality systems and processes.
- Coach and develop future quality leaders within the organization.
Qualifications:
- 8 years of experience in Quality, Operations, or Engineering within a development or manufacturing environment.
- 3 years of experience managing and developing teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Working knowledge of government quality and compliance standards (DCMA, FAR, DFARS, GIDEP, Government Property Management).
- Strong understanding of Quality Management Systems (AS9100 / AS9110 / ISO 9001).
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings, procedures, and technical documentation.
- Proficiency with PLM and ERP systems (Agile, Oracle, or SAP preferred).
- Experience using Lean Six Sigma and other root-cause analysis tools (FMEA, 8D, 5 Whys).
- Proven ability to lead distributed teams across multiple locations.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Background in hardware and software quality for Government, Aerospace, or Telecommunications sectors.
- Familiarity with Agile software development and industry standards (IPC 610, IPC 620S, J-STD-001S, MIL-STD-883, MIL-PRF-38534, EEE-INST-002, Aerospace TOR).
- Experience applying statistical process control and data-driven quality improvement methods.
