Deployment Principal – Lean Strategy & Performance Improvement Consultant
Location: Oakland, CA (Hybrid – onsite 2–3 days/week)
Employment Type: Contract (1-year initial duration with potential for extension/conversion)
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Deployment Principal / Lean Strategy Consultant to support enterprise-wide planning, KPI deployment, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role will partner with senior leaders and cross-functional teams to translate strategic priorities into actionable plans, measurable outcomes, and sustainable operating practices.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in Lean methodologies, enterprise planning, KPI development, and leadership coaching. This person will help teams align goals, improve performance management practices, and build capabilities that drive long-term business results.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy Deployment & KPI Alignment
- Support enterprise planning efforts by helping teams translate business priorities into actionable objectives and execution plans.
- Develop and cascade KPI frameworks, KPI trees, operational metrics, and performance management standards.
- Ensure goals and initiatives are aligned across enterprise, functional, and team levels.
- Help teams establish clear connections between strategy, work plans, metrics, and outcomes.
Lean Coaching & Facilitation
- Coach leaders and teams on Lean planning methodologies, performance management practices, and continuous improvement principles.
- Facilitate strategy deployment sessions, leadership workshops, planning reviews, and improvement discussions.
- Partner with stakeholders to drive adoption of standard practices and improve operational effectiveness.
- Provide constructive feedback and guidance to improve clarity, alignment, and execution.
Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
- Lead teams through structured problem-solving methodologies including A3 thinking, gap-to-target analysis, and root cause identification.
- Identify gaps between strategy and execution and coach teams through improvement opportunities.
- Support ongoing review cycles to ensure plans remain actionable and results-focused.
- Create feedback loops to improve planning tools, processes, and operating standards.
Capability Building & Standard Work
- Develop and deliver training materials, playbooks, processes, and best practices.
- Simplify complex Lean concepts into easy-to-understand tools and resources.
- Promote consistency in planning, performance tracking, and execution across teams.
- Partner with business leaders to strengthen continuous improvement capabilities.
Required Qualifications:
- 7–15 years of experience in Operational Excellence, Lean Consulting, Strategy Deployment, Business Performance, or Continuous Improvement.
- Strong experience with KPI deployment, KPI trees, enterprise metrics, and performance management frameworks.
- Experience cascading strategic objectives through large organizations.
- Strong facilitation experience with leadership teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Experience with A3 problem solving, root cause analysis, and gap-to-target improvement.
- Ability to translate complex strategies into clear, visual, actionable plans.
- Excellent communication, coaching, and stakeholder management skills.
- Comfortable working with senior leaders, directors, and executive-level stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting enterprise planning cycles or business transformation initiatives.
- Background working within a Lean Office, Operational Excellence team, or consulting environment.
- Experience developing standards, procedures, training materials, and process documentation.
- Ability to influence teams and coach stakeholders through change.
