Overview
We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professionals to provide high-quality care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities, aging needs, or other health challenges. This role involves assisting clients with daily living activities, ensuring their safety, and promoting independence within a supportive environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to person-centered care and a passion for improving the quality of life for those served. Prior experience in home care, assisted living, or long-term care settings is highly valued.
Duties
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
- Support residents with medication administration following proper protocols and HIPAA regulations
- Monitor patient health by taking vital signs and observing for any changes in condition
- Prepare nutritious meals and assist with meal planning in accordance with care plans
- Provide companionship and emotional support to promote mental well-being
- Operate mobility aids such as Hoyer lifts and assist with transfers safely
- Maintain a clean and safe environment through light cleaning and sanitation tasks
- Document care provided accurately in compliance with regulatory standards
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans
- Assist with transportation to medical appointments or community activities when needed
- Support residents during emergencies using CPR or first aid skills if necessary
Skills
- Experience working with people with developmental disabilities, autism, dementia, or Alzheimer’s care preferred
- Knowledge of patient observation, monitoring, and reporting procedures
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely when required for resident transfers or mobility assistance
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with clients, families, and team members
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality of patient information
- Basic cooking skills for meal preparation tailored to individual dietary needs
- Experience in home health, hospice care, nursing homes, assisted living, or social work is advantageous
- Ability to remain patient and compassionate in challenging situations
- Certification in CPR and First Aid is preferred but not mandatory; training can be provided on-site
