What are the responsibilities and job description for the Plumbing Estimator position at Grasseschi Plumbing?
Plumbing Estimator
Grasseschi Plumbing is seeking a technical Plumbing Estimator to lead our bidding process for large-scale commercial projects. Unlike general construction estimating, this role requires a deep "boots-on-the-ground" understanding of commercial piping systems, plumbing codes, and detailed digital takeoffs. You won't just be estimating "projects"; you will be identifying every single pipe, fitting, and fixture within a complex blueprint to ensure total project accuracy.
Key Responsibilities & "The Deep Dive"
- Digital Plan Takeoffs: Utilize Trimble on-screen digital takeoff software to produce 100% accurate labor and material counts for all Commercial Plumbing systems.
- Blueprint Analysis: Read and interpret complex commercial blueprints and architectural specifications, specifically identifying DWV (Drain, Waste, Vent), Potable Water, and Natural Gas layouts.
- Scope Identification: Meticulously account for every single piece of plumbing hardware in the drawings—from commercial water heaters and backflow preventers to specialized medical gas piping.
- Vendor & Rep Collaboration: Communicate directly with manufacturers' reps to secure competitive pricing on bulk commercial materials and specialized fixtures.
- Bid Verification: Evaluate all quotes from vendors and subs to ensure they conform strictly to the project specifications and current Massachusetts Plumbing Code.
Technical Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 3 years in Commercial Plumbing Estimating.
- Commercial Systems Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of various piping systems (Copper, PEX, Cast Iron, PVC) and connection methods (ProPress, Victaulic, Soldering) and their best application in commercial settings.
- Project Scale: Ability to estimate for hospitals, malls, schools, and large-scale commercial "refresh" programs.
- Field Knowledge: Prior field experience in Commercial Plumbing is highly preferred to understand the labor-hour realities of a project.
