CAD Designer

Job Summary:

This individual will create 3D coordination drawings from design documents using Revit and/or AutoCAD for use in the BIM process.

Job Responsibilities:

• Read, analyze, and interpret design documents and equipment submittals.
• Build 3D models of mechanical equipment when not provided by manufacturer.
• Assist with project coordination of duct, mechanical piping, and/or plumbing systems using Revit. Clearly annotate drawings with sizes, elevations and relevant notes for ease of interpretation by field installers.
• Use Navisworks to locate and resolve clashes within the project.
• Identify areas of conflict and write RFI’s clearly explaining issues that require design team resolution
• Willingness to pick up the phone to discuss coordination processes with other trades, engineers, architects, and general contractors as needed.
• Validate existing conditions shown on contract documents thru field verification (i.e. obtain existing steel locations and elevation/existing services to remain locations) that will aid in developing accurate coordination drawings.
• Attend and contribute to online and/or on-site coordination meetings.
• Work with Pre-Fabrication team to create fabrication drawings based on coordinated models.
• Support Site – respond to field inquiries on ongoing projects.
• Assist project foremen in creating final redlines and/or interpret redlines for use in developing final record drawings.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be proficient in the use of Autodesk software including AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks. Knowledge of Autodesk Fabrication software is a plus.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years experience using AutoCAD
• Minimum of 2 years Revit experience
• Familiarity with Navisworks Manage
• Experience in creating coordination drawings for the Mechanical Trades and working with other trades to clear areas of conflict is desired

Other Requirements:

• Willingness to train in the use of the Trimble Total Station to assist field in hanger locations.
• Willingness to learn new and innovative ways to a more efficient and cost-effective workflow (i.e. scanning, implementing new software)

Physical Demands

• The employee must occasionally climb ladders to access existing services locations to be incorporated into coordination drawings.
• Strict adherence to Company safety requirements

Work Environment

This position, although office based, will require occasional visits to job sites.
