Construction Estimator

Job Summary:

The Estimators are responsible for a portion of the organization's estimating functions. Additionally, they are responsible for maintaining the company’s estimating software as well as keeping the list pricing in our system current. The estimators report to Vice President of estimating/preconstruction.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsible for reviewing plans and specifications for new project estimates.
• Broadcast the project to our vendors and subcontractors with a link to the plans and specifications.
• Setup estimate in our software, complete a detailed takeoff of pipe, valves and fittings.
• Receive and disseminate quotes from vendors and subcontractors, load them into the estimating software.
• Responsible for maintaining and updating list pricing and supplier multipliers.
• Experience using the following Software: MS Office Excel, Word, Access; Quikpen, or similar estimating software.
• Proficient in estimating both plumbing and piping systems for projects.
• Plumbing systems include DWV, Natural gas, domestic water, Medical gas systems
• Mechanical systems include chilled water, heating hot water,condenser water, refrigerant, steam and steam condensate.
• Ability to manage estimating activities for several projects to meet bid deadlines, including internal pre-bid meetings.
• Prepare pre-bid RFI’s
• Compose Proposal; contents to include project scope, price, clarifications, and exclusions.
• Complete bid forms and other requisite documents requested by the general contractor.
• Preparation of Excel Workbook that will be the basis for management review and acceptance of cost estimate.
• Lead management review meetings prior to bid(s) being submitted.
• Prepare compliance documents in accordance to company SOP.
• Point of contact for post-bid, pre-award actives; internal and external.
• Lead hand-over meeting to the operation team.
• Perform other related duties or special projects, as assigned

Education, Training, Licenses and/or Certifications

• BS or BA degree preferred (Engineering or Business preferred), will review Technical College Degree; Journeyman Plumber, Pipe Fitter will be considered in place of minimum experience as an estimator stated below.
• Minimum of 2 years as a estimator for commercial construction.
• Experienced providing final approval for project estimates.
• Familiarity with software packages including Office 365 or greater, MS Office Excel, Word, Access; Bluebeam, Quikpen.
• Experience working with estimators and engineers.
• Strong construction knowledge.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical skills with experience evaluating mechanical systems designed by others.
• Strong negotiation skills
• Possesses a sense of duty to the company for what is in the best interest of the company and its employees.
• Prompt and responsive with measured urgency

• PC proficiency required – Office 365 or greater
• Ability to successfully complete a full background screening, drug screening and MVR

Pay: From $94,000.00 per year

Experience:

• Estimating for commercial construction: 2 years (Preferred)
