What are the responsibilities and job description for the Warehouse Material Coordinator position at Granite Peak Fabrication?
Position Summary
The Warehouse Material Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring the right material, from the right manufacturer, with the right documentation, reaches the shop floor on time and fully compliant. This position requires a self-starter who works with integrity, takes ownership of responsibilities, and understands that quality and timeliness begin in receiving.
Core Responsibilities
Material Receiving & Compliance
- Unload and receive material; verify against Vendor Packing Slip, GPF Purchase Orders (PO#) and Job BOMs.
- Verify all materials against Approved Manufacturer Lists (AML).
- Review Certificates of Origin (CoO), Material Test Reports (MTRs), and confirm heat numbers where required.
- Ensure compliance with ASME codes, project specifications, and customer requirements.
- Identify damaged products upon receipt and notify freight carriers and Warehouse Manager immediately.
- Document shortages or discrepancies on vendor packing slips before signing.
- Transfer all packing slips to Expeditor daily to maintain traceability.
- Segregate and clearly identify nonconforming materials.
- Maintain organized documentation for audit and QA review.
Receiving Timeframe Performance Standards
Timely receiving directly supports GPF’s mission of delivering high-quality, on-time products. The following performance goals apply:
- Standard material (plate, pipe, fittings):
Receive, verify, and tag within 24 hours
- ASME code / hot-job material:
Receive, verify heat numbers & MTRs, and notify QA within 8 hours
- Expedited / hot-job material:
Receive and process within 2–4 hours
- Large or complex shipments (bundles, crates, FTL loads, multiple heats):
Initial verification within 24 hours
Full reconciliation within 48 hours
- Damaged or nonconforming shipments:
Identify, segregate, and notify Purchasing and QA immediately (same shift)
Meeting these timelines is a key accountability measure for this role.

- Working knowledge of ASME codes, practices, and standards.
- Experience reviewing AML documentation, MTRs, and Certificates of Origin preferred.
