What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical Warehouse Associate position at Granite Peak Fabrication?
Electrical Warehouse Associate
Position Summary
This position is a multi-role warehouse position responsible for receiving, verifying, storing, kitting, and issuing industrial electrical material in support of Granite Peak Fabrication (GPF) shop, I&E, and UL panel shop operations. The employee will receive and verify electrical material against purchase orders and job bills of material; identify conduit, fittings, enclosures, wire and cable, and control components by sight and part number; stage complete electrical kits by job and skid; and operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to unload, store, and move material in the warehouse and shop. This position requires 3–5 years of hands-on experience with a wide variety of industrial electrical fittings and parts, and the ability to recognize when the part on the pallet is not the part on the bill of material. All duties must be performed in compliance with GPF receiving procedures, customer specifications, and company safety policies.
Essential Responsibilities
Material Receiving and Verification Duties:
- Unload and receive material; verify against the vendor packing slip, GPF Purchase Order (PO#), and Job Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Verify electrical components are the items specified on the drawings and BOM — manufacturer, part number, voltage/amperage rating, enclosure (NEMA/Type) rating, and hazardous-location rating — before they are accepted into stock.
- Confirm listed components carry the required UL/CSA listing marks and labels; keep manufacturer data sheets and certifications with the job package when required by the customer specification.
- Identify damaged products upon receipt and notify freight carriers and the Warehouse Manager immediately.
- Document shortages or discrepancies on vendor packing slips before signing.
- Transfer all packing slips to the Expeditor daily to maintain traceability.
- Segregate and clearly identify nonconforming or incorrect material.
- Maintain organized receiving documentation for audit and QA review.
Electrical Material Kitting and Stock Duties:
- Identify industrial electrical fittings and parts by sight and part number: rigid (RMC), IMC, EMT, and PVC-coated conduit and fittings; seal-offs, unions, and explosion-proof fittings and enclosures; cable glands; cable tray and supports; MC/TC cable, THHN, and instrument cable; disconnects, breakers, motor starters, VFDs, terminal blocks, relays, and control panel components; instruments; and heat trace materials.
- Pull, kit, and stage complete electrical material packages by job and skid per the electrical BOM so the I&E crew and panel shop have the right parts when the job reaches the electrical sequence.
- Flag substitutions, wrong ratings, or missing items on electrical BOMs to the Electrical Shop Foreman and Purchasing before material is issued, not after it is installed.
- Maintain organized, labeled stock of common electrical consumables and fittings; monitor levels and notify Purchasing when reorder is needed.
- Return, restock, and re-label unused electrical material at job completion so it is available and traceable to the next job.
Receiving Timeframe Performance Standards:
Timely receiving directly supports GPF’s mission of delivering high-quality, on-time products. The following performance goals apply:
- Standard material (conduit, fittings, wire, cable, enclosures):
Receive, verify, and tag within 24 hours
- Expedited / hot-job material:
Receive and process within 2–4 hours
- Large or complex shipments (bundles, crates, FTL loads, multi-line orders):
Initial verification within 24 hours
Full reconciliation within 48 hours
- Damaged, incorrect, or nonconforming shipments:
Identify, segregate, and notify Purchasing and QA immediately (same shift)
Meeting these timelines is a key accountability measure for this role.
Warehouse Operations and Material Flow Duties:
- Store and arrange material for efficient distribution to the shop.
- Apply First-In, First-Out (FIFO) principles to ensure proper material rotation.
- Distribute material to Shop Foremen as requested.
- Ensure spool pallets have adequate flange protection when issued.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse at all times.
- Safely operate forklifts and material handling equipment; perform daily pre-use inspections and report defects.
- Assist with shop duties (cutting material, cleaning, support tasks) once primary warehouse responsibilities are fully complete.
Note: This role does not require cycle counting or traditional inventory management; however, strong organization, traceability, and discipline are essential.
Minimum Job Requirements
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience with a wide variety of industrial electrical fittings and parts, gained in an electrical supply house, industrial electrical contractor, fabrication shop, or similar setting.
- Working knowledge of industrial electrical materials, including conduit systems and fittings, hazardous-location (Class I, Division 1 and 2) fittings and enclosures, cable tray, wire and cable types, and control panel components; familiarity with NEC and UL listing requirements for these items.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical BOMs, POs, part numbers, manufacturer data sheets, and basic electrical drawings.
- Strong understanding of material identification and job traceability requirements.
- Experience in oil and gas fabrication or production equipment manufacturing preferred.
- Forklift certification per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.178 or ability to obtain upon hire.
- Basic computer proficiency; ERP (JobBOSS) experience preferred.
- Acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) per company and insurance standards.
- Must be drug free; pre-employment drug testing required.
