What are the responsibilities and job description for the Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator and Instructional Technologist position at GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY?
Serves as main administrator for Blackboard, GV’s learning management system. Provides leadership, training, resources, and support for instructional technologies and software. This position is required to be in-person.
Essential Functions of Job:
- Learning Management System administration, instructional design and faculty development, and instructional technology integration.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve instructional technology use, efficiency, accessibility, and faculty support across the institution.
- Monitor, manage, and maintain LMS system health, including storage optimization, course lifecycle management, and long-term sustainability planning.
- Administer and provide first-level support for academic systems including the Learning Management System (Blackboard) including Blackboard partner integrations, monitoring/managing Blackboard storage and course archives, and managing faculty portfolios in Blackboard. Other critical systems:

- Also contribute support for Zoom as well as Teams and collaborate with Bookstore manager to support inclusive access and VitalSource integration in Blackboard.
- Support Grand View in its investigation, design, and deployment of instructional technologies; serve as a campus-wide resource in these matters, including support for student utilization of Blackboard, and implementation of new academic software.
- Provide leadership to meaningfully increase the use of instructional technologies at Grand View.
- Deliver faculty development to train instructors in classroom based instructional technology, including:
- Develop and maintain online training for instructors as appropriate
- Meet with and train new faculty one-on-one as needed
- Manage aspects of LTI/partner integrations.
- Provide development and training on basic software used in support of staff and faculty roles.
- Support the Grand View University faculty in designing, developing, testing, and integrating instructional applications of technology that authentically support learning, including smart classroom, e-portfolio, and other technologies.
- Collaborate closely with the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning to support institutional faculty development initiatives and instructional excellence.
- Create a visible presence for enhancing utilization of technology by attending CETL faculty development events as appropriate and serving on appropriate committees and task forces.
- Coordinate with the Director of Disabilities Services with ADA requirements that are related to technology and the Learning Management System.
- Educate and support instructors regarding designing for accessibility
- Support visually impaired students utilizing screen readers with Blackboard and other instructional technologies
- Collaborate regularly with Instructional Designer on LMS initiatives and projects.
- Collaborate with Vice President for Information Services/CIO on software adoption and integration, and Blackboard/Colleague issues
- Collaborate with Client Support Administrator (Helpdesk) on classroom technology issues, Blackboard ticket issue trends, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in instructional technology or blended/online curriculum design; Master’s degree in instructional technology or blended/online curriculum design strongly preferred.
- Three to five years’ experience using Course Management Systems and instructional technology.
- Experience with online course management tools preferred.
- Three to five years’ experience with Microsoft Windows and Office. Microsoft SharePoint experience preferred.
- Ability to design and effectively teach adults in individual and group settings and maintain positive relationships with faculty and staff.
- Ability to quickly grasp new skills and technologies.
- Ability to work remotely if necessary.
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to occasionally work in evenings and weekends.
