What are the responsibilities and job description for the Condo Staff Accountant position at Grand Traverse Resort And Spa?
SUMMARY
The staff/condo accountant will primarily function as a General Accountant, but will cross-train in many other areas within the accounting department to support and serve as back-up for these positions as needed. The Staff accountant will also be assigned non-routine projects as necessary.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts with bank accounts
- Prepare financial reports
- Assist with the preparation of weekly/monthly/yearly financial statements and reports
- Assist with annual audit
- Maintain record of accounting deadlines and monitor their completion.
- Cross train and support designated members of the Accounting team.
- Other duties assigned by the Controller and Assistant Controller
- To work closely with other departments in resolving departmental accounting issues
- To provide strong support in day to day operations of the Accounting Department.
- Maintain a good rapport with fellow employees and reflect a positive attitude.
- Complete all assignments requested on a timely basis.
- Manage fixed assets
- Maintain unclaimed checks for state report
- Audit internal controls
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's Degree in Accountancy or Business
- Three years in Hotel or Front Office accounting preferred
- Working knowledge of Tops Accounting software preferred
- Working knowledge of V1 and LMS Front office system preferred
- Working knowledge of Microsoft office products
- Strong computer skills

- Candidate must have proper listening skills.
- Candidate must have the ability to operate general office equipment along with those needed to do specific tasks.
- Candidate must be able to maintain patience and professional attitude when dealing with issues that may arise.
- Candidate must have the ability to comfortably handle confrontation.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES (If applicable)
- Candidate will be responsible for daily reporting of accounts and maintain confidential information.
- Candidate will be required to attend and speak at various departmental meetings.

- Must be able to sit for long periods of time
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

- There are deadlines that must be met. These include daily, weekly, monthly and annual deadlines. Candidate must have the ability to work comfortably with these deadlines and meet them as required.
- This position is a direct reflection on the Accounting Department of the Resort. Candidate must be able to listen, engage and resolve difficult issues that guests and employees may present.

- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be comfortable with the pressure of deadlines.
- Must be capable of maintaining a professional attitude when dealing with difficult phone conversations.
