Job Description:
Grand Traverse Canvas Works, a family-owned business founded in 1982, creates a variety of custom marine, outdoor, and industrial canvas/fabric products in Northern Michigan. We employ a small staff of hard-working, engaging, and supportive people, who enjoy working with their hands, and seeing projects through to completion.
We provide our customers with a variety of shade solutions, including awnings, shade sails, pergola covers, and exterior screens. We also fabricate unique solutions for winter porch protection.
The Role: We are not looking for a short-term seasonal laborer; we are looking for someone who wants to build a career in a specialized trade. Your mission is to ensure our Lead Fabricator and installation teams have exactly what they need while learning the trade from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities
1. Fleet Preparation & Inventory
2. On-Site Installation Assistance
- Act as the crucial "second set of hands" for our Lead Installer during on-site awning, enclosure, and screen installations.
- Manage ladders, stage tools, safely lift and maneuver heavy aluminum extrusions, and ensure a spotless job site upon project completion.
3. Expediting & Shop Support
Qualifications & "Must-Haves"
- You take pride in a clean workspace and an organized tool kit.
- The ability to consistently lift up to 75 lbs, comfortably carry and stabilize ladders, and work outdoors in varying Northern Michigan weather.
- Comfortable and safe using basic power tools (drills, impact drivers, chop saws, tape measures).
- You are eager to learn, take direction well, and step in wherever the team needs muscle or logistical support.
- A High School diploma (or equivalent) and a valid driver’s license are non-negotiable.
- Comfort driving a service van and/or trailer is a plus.
This is a full-time position, Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., and some overtime and weekends as necessary.
