SUMMARY
Heavy Equipment Operator: Operate Prinoth Snowcats to maintain alpine ski trails. Offer guests safe, skiable, desirable and fun skiing terrain. A key part of every employee's job is to serve as a Targhee ambassador, engaging the guest at every opportunity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES including the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Participate in daily pre and post shift meetings regarding current snow conditions, task assignments and objectives of the night.
- Perform daily equipment inspections, complete logs and effectively communicate mechanical issues.
- Operate snowcats in a safe manner with no damage to equipment or to areas of work.
- Maintain full awareness of surroundings and safest way to navigate the equipment.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the equipment; how it operates and the safest way to operate the equipment through constant attention.
- Maintain a focus on equipment performance & quality of product by keeping distractions to a minimum.
- Develop proficient use of vehicle attachments including tiller and blade.
- Maintain equipment in a routine manner including basic servicing & housekeeping.
- Contribute to collaborative team effort by accomplishing department goals.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
- Night shift working hours include holidays & weekends. Some job sharing may be required.
- Maintain a positive attitude while contributing to the success of department and company.
RESPONSIBILITIES TO SAFETY:
- Protect the safety of self-workers, and Grand Targhee Resort guests.
- Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor without delay.
- Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to immediate supervisor.
- Follow all company and department safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Resort’s Occupational Safety & Health Compliance Manual and department-specific procedures or manuals.
- Operate equipment safely so that it will not lead to injury to yourself or others.
- Drive in accordance with the law and Grand Targhee Resort policies.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
WORK SCHEDULE
Due to the nature of the recreation industry, we are in operation seven days a week. This includes weekends and holidays and there is no guarantee of hours. Flexible working hours may be required based on the business levels.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Basic knowledge of hydraulic powered heavy equipment. Ability to operate heavy equipment with experience in construction, agriculture, landscaping or related field required. Knowledge of ski area operations preferred. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to follow directions.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Driver's license needed.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Able to accurately read and make measurements.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine shift reports and correspondence. Ability to speak English effectively in a group meeting and via radios.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
