Reports To: Principal

Work Hours/Days: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m., Part-Time

Typical Calendar Days Per Year: 180

Grand Peak Academy (GPA) is a kindergarten-eighth grade classical, Core Knowledge public charter school committed to providing excellent educational opportunities to students in Northeast Colorado Springs. GPA offers a holistic classical approach to education that implements rigorous academic instruction in conjunction with an active classroom. Our model challenges students to think critically and take active roles in their classrooms and communities. This results in higher achievement and greater engagement in school. Our school gives students the academic and character-building skills they need as learners and leaders.

Purpose statement

Grand Peak Academy is seeking a Part-Time School Counselor for the 2026-2027 school year! These individuals will join a committed team of educators to strengthen the foundation of an extraordinary school. In their daily practice, GPA interventionists will improve the educational outcomes for students, cultivate a culture that encourages young learners and leaders, and leverage data and evidence-based practices.

Summary

School counselors work to maximize student success, promoting access and equity for all students. As vital members of the school leadership team, school counselors create a school culture of success for all". The school counseling program provides education, prevention and intervention activities, which are integrated into all aspects of students' lives. The program teaches students the knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary for academic, career and social/ emotional development.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities

  • Provide short-term counseling to students to include crisis support
  • Provide referrals for long-term support
  • Maintains confidentiality of all records and conversations
  • Advocate for students at IEP meetings and comply with IEP and 504 accommodations
  • Assists students with academic planning, accountability, and/or organization when requested
  • Provide goal setting in classroom lessons based on student success standards
  • Teaches a variety of skills including social skills, study skills, and test-taking skills.
  • Collaborates with teachers to identify ways to improve the achievement and social development of students
  • Promptly notifies appropriate authorities of any reports or suspicions of crimes, abuse, or neglect
  • Communicates progress and concerns with tact and professionalism to parents and, as appropriate, other faculty, staff, and/or principal
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with parents, staff and students.
  • Collaborates with families, teachers and administrators to strengthen student success
  • Adhere to and understand all policies and procedures in the GPA employee handbook and Minga Handbook
  • Participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, in-service opportunities, workshops, and other training seminars
  • Maintains knowledge of research, developments, and best practices in education
  • Uses data analysis to identify student issues, needs and challenges
  • Provides interventions to students through MTSS when need arises
  • Performs related tasks such as sponsoring student activities or organizations
  • Participate in all Back to School and Parent nights, and recruitment events as directed by the principal
  • Acting as a systems change agent to improve equity and access, achievement and opportunities for all students
  • Teaching Social Emotional Learning with administration approval and when schedule allows
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

  • Thorough understanding of warning signs of abuse, neglect, or other crimes.
  • Ability to work well with a variety of other personalities

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in school counseling or in an applicable field preferred.
  • Special Service Provider (SSP) license in school counseling required.
  • Meet state certification/licensure standards
  • Fulfill continuing education requirements
  • Uphold ASCA ethical and professional standards
  • Related experience preferred

Compensation

Salary Range: $52,166-68,108
