Position Summary/Purpose: Grand Canyon University (GCU) maintains relationships with nonprofit organizations identified by the IRS as 501(c)(3) by virtue of their charitable programs. The collective mission of 501(c)(3) organizations in the Phoenix Valley is to improve the quality of life for community residents or to solve particular problems related to those residents’ needs. GCU maintains a partnership with Iglesia Aliento/Breath Church located at 701 South 1st Street, Phoenix, AZ, 85004. Hospitality is one of Iglesia Aliento’s core values, demonstrated through their support of newly arrived immigrants in the Phoenix area. They connect individuals with essential community services such as healthcare, food assistance, legal aid, housing resources, and citizenship courses for permanent residents. The CSLP student worker’s work schedule is dependent on the hours of operations and needs of Iglesia Aliento; however, CSLP student workers may not work more than 20 hours per week during the academic year (i.e., fall/spring). If eligible, CSLP student workers can work during summer (i.e., May – August). CSLP: This position has been reviewed and approved as Community Service as defined by 34 CFR 675.2(b). Per 34 CFR 675.2(b), community services are defined as, “Services which are designed to improve the quality of life for community residents, particularly low-income individuals, or to solve particular problems related to their need.” These services must be open and accessible to the community. As an FWS-CSLP approved position, its services will be offered to non-GCU community members (i.e., local residents). Note: All FWS and FWS-CSLP positions require applicants to complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa to be reviewed for FWS-eligibility and awarded FWS. Primary Responsibilities /Accountabilities/ Essential Functions: Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish) Available for occasional Sunday Worship support Provide logistical and hospitality support for citizenship and ESL classes, including setup, materials, and sign-ins Assist participants with basic digital literacy (e.g., Zoom access, online forms, announcements) Maintain and update the church website and social media with bilingual content such as schedules, reflections, and event promotions Prepare Sunday worship visuals (bulletins, slides, scriptures, lyrics) and assist with tech setup as needed Attend Sunday services occasionally to support tech needs and connect with new participants in educational programs Follow up with students in classes (reminders, schedule changes, participant feedback) Other duties as assigned. Equipment Used and Responsibility: MS Office Suite Familiarity/Comfort with Canva, Google Suite, PowerPoint, and social media platforms. Qualifications: Heart for service, hospitality, and social justice rooted in faith values. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred Interest in education, digital inclusion, and immigrant justice Comfort using tools like Canva, Google Suite, PowerPoint, and social platforms Compassionate communicator with intercultural awareness Available for occasional Sunday worship support Must have reliable transportation. Experience/Education: Grand Canyon University is committed to a student first policy. Therefore, all applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for student employment: Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a Bachelor’s program or Master’s program. Retain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student. Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University. You may be subject to termination if you fall below the minimum requirements.
