Job Description:

The Grain Craft and Central Milling Packer reports to the Miller/Shift Lead. Their main purpose is to operate the equipment as needed to fill the demand for bagged and bulk products, including but not limited to; setting up, operation and maintenance of packing equipment, palletizing, and warehouse activities while on duty and all that entails.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Conduct all activities in compliance with safety and plant rules and Good Manufacturing Practices.

· Work in the packing area of the warehouse department and is responsible for the operation of the packing, shrink wrapping, conveying, palletizing, stretch wrapping, and pallet handling equipment used on2#, 5#, 10#, 25#, 50# flour bags and all that it entails.

· Correct minor malfunctions concerning the re-bolting and bulk flour handling equipment required to supply flour to the packer.

· Conduct routine maintenance of the department and mill equipment as scheduled, and maintain the assigned area in a clean, sanitary condition.

· Operate the forklift/pallet jack as needed to move finished product pallets, supply empty bags, empty pallets and rolls of wrapping material to the packaging equipment and personnel.

· Operate automated grain probe for sampling of incoming grain. Perform basic testing of protein and/or falling number as required.

· Facilitate the loading of millrun (byproduct) into bulk trailers.

· Complete necessary paperwork as needed, including receiving, production, and transfers.

· Inspect all packaged products for product quality and consistency; inspect all packages for proper code printing and package integrity.

· Routinely observe and report to the supervisor information he/she needs to ensure the preservation of the physical facility, including all utilities, pumps, compressors, boilers, roofs, etc.

· Carries out the instructions of the Chief or Assistant Chief as spelled out in the Emergency Action Plan in case of an emergency.

· Maintain regular and punctual attendance and must be reliable.

· Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

· High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).

· Experience in the farming, flour or food production environment, but not required.

· Forklift Certified

· Receive training to acquire a working knowledge of the Packaging Equipment, Palletizer, and their associate equipment

· Use common hand and power tools including, but not limited to, common mechanics and shop tools. Operate electric and electronic controls, replace fuses, lamps, lightbulbs

· Ability to demonstrate detailed orientation, which includes ensuring documentation is complete.

· Ability to complete routine forms, using existing form letter, and/or conduct routine oral communications

· Ability to operate equipment and ensure it stays in optimal performance specs.

· Ability to climb ladders and work at elevated heights with proper PPE.

· Ability to understand, remember, and apply oral/written instructions.

· Ability to quickly make decisions that may have an immediate impact on the work unit and department.

· Ability to communicate with others effectively, and express or exchange ideas in a respectful manner.

Essential Requirements:

· Hours of Work: Work on all shifts, and be subject to overtime, up to twelve hours per day and up to seven days per week for weeks at a time.

· Specific Knowledge: Basic knowledge of the process and flow of materials in the plant.

· Machines, Tools, Equipment, Etc.: Use common hand and power tools. Operate and be familiar with common electric and electronic devices.

· General Education, Reasoning: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions.

· General Education, Mathematics: Add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure; to perform the four operations with like or common decimal fractions; to compute ratio, rate, and percent; to perform arithmetic operations involving all American milling units of measure.

· General Education, Language: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common written documents. Ability to effectively present information to head miller, management, and other team members.
