About the student
- 18 year old student, missed last two years of school due to cancer treatment
- The student needs to work with a tutor for support in High School GED subjects; primarily English, math, and organizational/executive functioning skills.
- The family is asking for a tutor who is a past or present credentialed teacher and who has experience working with students with special needs. The family is open to working with 2 tutors if necessary.
- The student has severe ADHD and OCD. She has not attended school in 2 years due to thyroid cancer treatment. She has always struggled with learning and has had difficulty with learning her whole life. Due to her treatment and absence from school the student really has difficulty doing simple tasks. She has expressed an interest in going back to school and wants to go to college.
- For math the student needs a tutor who is strong with high level math in addition to Algebra 2. End goal for math is Geometry.
- She also wants to work with a tutor for executive functioning, organization, study, and life skills.
- The goals are for the student to work with a tutor who can help the student with working towards her high school diploma and finishing her academic coursework to get her diploma as well as for basic "life" and executive functioning skills.
- The family wants 2 hour sessions 5 times a week, between 1pm-5pm, any day of the week Monday through Sunday.
- The family is seeking a tutor who can meet at their home in Las Vegas in the Queensridge neighborhood not far from Merryhill Preschool.
Qualifications
- Ideal candidates will have prior experience working with high school students.
- Ideal candidates will have prior experience teaching special education students.
- Ideal candidates will have prior experience teaching ELA, math, and organizational skills.
- Ideal candidates will have a teaching certification.
- Willing to travel within your preferred local radius to meet the student (typically 5-10 miles)
- Due to insurance requirements, applicants must not be a minor.
Student Availability
MON-SUN: (7 days a week) 1:00pm-5:00pm
