Grace Cathedral is seeking qualified candidates for Director of Formation for Children,
Youth, Families, and Adults.
Job Summary
Director of Formation The for Children, Youth, Families, and Adults is an Episcopal priest who reports to and assists the Canon Pastor. The position is responsible for overseeing, developing and helping to implement church school, youth, and family programs. As a pastoral leader, this position works closely with the Canon Pastor, as well as with cathedral staff and members of the congregation to help Grace Cathedral support children, youth, and adults as they grow in faith and ministry. The base schedule for this exempt position is 40 hours a week, with approximately 25 hours focused on children,
youth, and family ministries, 5 hours on adult formation, and 10 hours performing other
priestly duties.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (full job description available upon request)
• Play a full role as a member of the clergy team, exercising liturgical and pastoral
leadership, including officiating at offices, weddings, and funerals; preaching and
teaching; presiding at the Eucharist; and pastoral care. Each clergy person has one call
day per week and one week per month on call with a pastoral emergency line.
• Coordinate and supervise Sunday School classes approximately 48 Sundays per year
• Prepare classes and programs in Christian formation for children and youth to be
baptized or confirmed
• Coordinate diocesan-wide youth engagement programs
• Develop strategies for retaining children and youth
• Serve as chaplain to the boys’ and girls’ choirs
Required Skills, Experience, and Expectations
• An Episcopal priest in good standing with a mature prayer life
• Bachelor’s degree required; MDiv preferred
• Background in education and knowledge of child development theory
• Minimum of two years’ experience as the lead minister for a youth or children’s church
program, including hands-on experience as a classroom teacher/leader
• A collaborative approach to people and project management, an effective diplomat and
creative problem-solver
• Must work Christmas Eve, Christmas, Easter and other feast days as needed, as well as
the day before Ash Wednesday to help support the annual fundraising gala
• Spanish fluency is desirable

Compensation and Benefits
The salary for this position is determined by diocesan standards for associate clergy and
congregation size.
