Position Summary:
Goshen College invites applicants for the position of Academic Access Specialist. The Academic Access Specialist is a member of the Academic Success Center team, with a mission to support student success and achievement. This position ensures that students can fully access the academic support, resources, and environments they need to succeed. The Specialist manages test proctoring, coordinates captioning and media accessibility for ASC materials, supports peer tutoring operations, and provides front-facing student support and operational assistance across the center. This is a hands-on, detail-oriented role that sits at the heart of the ASC’s daily operations and infrastructure.
Essential Functions: (Core Job Responsibilities)
- Manages test proctoring
- Administers proctored testing for students with academic accommodations, ensuring a distraction-reduced, supportive testing environment.
- Works in partnership with accessibility services to ensure accommodation procedures are followed accurately and confidentially.
- Assists students in understanding and accessing their academic accommodations.
- Coordinates captioning and media accessibility for ASC materials
- Captions video materials used in various courses, ensuring accessibility for students with hearing-related accommodations or language needs.
- Reviews and corrects auto-generated captions for accuracy, clarity, and compliance with accessibility standards.
- Maintains an organized system for tracking captioning requests and completed materials.
- Supports peer tutoring operations
- Assists with the coordination of peer tutoring services, including scheduling, room logistics, and student communication.
- Supervises student tutors and student worker(s) in their day-to-day responsibilities.
- Provides front-facing student support and ASC operational assistance
- Serves as a welcoming front-line presence for the ASC, greeting students, answering questions, and directing them to appropriate resources and team members.
- Manages office logistics including supply inventory, filing systems, and general office operations.
- Supports ASC programming and events through logistical coordination and setup.
- Assists with data entry, documentation, and reporting as directed by the Senior Director.
Supervisory Responsibility:
- Supervises peer tutors and student worker(s).
Education and Experience:
- Some college education required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience working in a higher education setting, particularly in a student-facing office, preferred.
- Experience with captioning tools, accessibility software, or educational technology preferred.

Preferred:
- Experience with captioning platforms or media accessibility tools.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English.
- Familiarity with FERPA regulations and academic accommodation processes.
Special Requirements:
- The position is a 10-month contract (.83 FTE).
- Occasional evening or weekend hours may be needed for special events a few times a year.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift light loads (up to 25 pounds).
- Prolonged sitting and use of keyboard.
- Ability to complete primary tasks by viewing computer screen(s) for the majority of any given workday (extensive use of computer technology).
- Considerable phone use and operation of copier and other standard office equipment.
Work Environment/Environmental Conditions:
- Work will primarily take place in a standard indoor office environment.
